Rigveda Samhita — Mandala 7 — Chapter 26

RV 7 26.1

na soma indram asuto mamāda nābrahmāṇo maghavānaṁ sutāsaḥ | tasmā ukthaṁ janaye yaj jujoṣan nṛvan navīyaḥ śṛṇavad yathā naḥ

Unpressed soma has not exhilarated Indra, nor have pressed (juices) without priestly formulations exhilarated the bounteous one. For him I bring forth a hymn which he will enjoy, manly and new, so that he may hear us.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

SOMA unpressed ne'er gladdened liberal Indra, no juices pressed without a prayer have pleased him. I generate a laud that shall delight him, new and heroic, so that he may hear us.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 7 26.2

uktha-ukthe soma indram mamāda nīthe-nīthe maghavānaṁ sutāsaḥ | yad īṁ sabādhaḥ pitaraṁ na putrāḥ samānadakṣā avase havante

At every hymn soma has exhilarated Indra, at every song the pressed (juices) have exhilarated the bounteous one, when, pressing upon him, of one accord, like sons a father, they call him for help.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

At every laud the Soma gladdens Indra: pressed juices please him as each psalm is chanted, What time the priests with one united effort call him to aid, as sons invoke their father.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 7 26.3

cakāra tā kṛṇavan nūnam anyā yāni bruvanti vedhasaḥ suteṣu | janīr iva patir ekaḥ samāno ni māmṛje pura indraḥ su sarvāḥ

Those deeds he has done; now he will do others, which the ritual masters tell of at the pressings. Like one husband, the same to (many) wives, Indra has swept away all the strongholds.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition — the model flagged this verse as uncertain

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

These deeds he did; let him achieve new exploits, such as the priests declare at their libations. Indra hath taken and possessed all castles, like as one common husband doth his spouses.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 7 26.4

evā tam āhur uta śṛṇva indra eko vibhaktā taraṇir maghānām | mithastura ūtayo yasya pūrvīr asme bhadrāṇi saścata priyāṇi

So they speak of him, and Indra is heard of as the sole apportioner of bounties, the one who brings (us) through; whose many aids come speeding in turn — may good and dear things attend on us.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition — the model flagged this verse as uncertain

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

Even thus have they declared him. Famed is Indra as Conqueror, sole distributer of treasures; Whose many succours come in close succession. May dear delightful benefits attend us.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 7 26.5

evā vasiṣṭha indram ūtaye nṝn kṛṣṭīnāṁ vṛṣabhaṁ sute gṛṇāti | sahasriṇa upa no māhi vājān yūyam pāta svastibhiḥ sadā naḥ

Thus does Vasiṣṭha sing of Indra at the pressing, for the aid of men, the bull of the settlements. Mete out to us thousandfold prizes. Do you protect us always with your blessings.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

Thus, to bring help to men, Vasishṭha laudeth Indra, the peoples' Hero, at libation. Bestow upon us strength and wealth in thousands. Preserve us evermore, ye Gods, with blessings.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)
