ā gāvo agmann uta bhadram akran sīdantu goṣṭhe raṇayantv asme | prajāvatīḥ pururūpā iha syur indrāya pūrvīr uṣaso duhānāḥ

The cows have come, and they have made good fortune; let them settle in the stall and take pleasure with us. Rich in offspring, of many forms, let them be here, milked for Indra through many dawns.

THE Kine have come and brought good fortune: let them rest in the cow-pen and be happy near us. Here let them stay prolific, many-coloured, and yield through many morns their milk for Indra.

RV 6 28.2

indro yajvane pṛṇate ca śikṣaty uped dadāti na svam muṣāyati | bhūyo-bhūyo rayim id asya vardhayann abhinne khilye ni dadhāti devayum

Indra gives aid to the sacrificer and to the one who gives generously; he gives to him besides, he does not rob him of what is his own. Increasing his wealth more and more, he sets the god-devoted man in an unbroken plot of land.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

Indra aids him who offers sacrifice and gifts: he takes not what is his, and gives him more thereto. Increasing ever more and ever more his wealth, he makes the pious dwell within unbroken bounds.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 6 28.3

न ता नशन्ति न दभाति तस्करो नासाम् आमित्रो व्यथिर् आ दधर्षति । देवाꣳश् च याभिर् यजते ददाति च ज्योग् इत् ताभिः सचते गोपतिः सह

na tā naśanti na dabhāti taskaro nāsām āmitro vyathir ā dadharṣati | devām̐ś ca yābhir yajate dadāti ca jyog it tābhiḥ sacate gopatiḥ saha

They are not lost, no thief harms them, no hostile one dares to inflict injury on them; with them he both sacrifices to the gods and gives gifts — long indeed does the lord of cattle keep company with them.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

These are ne'er lost, no robber ever injures them: no evil-minded foe attempts to harass them. The master of the Kine lives many a year with these, the Cows whereby he pours his gifts and serves the Gods.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 6 28.4

न ता अर्वा रेणुककाटो अश्नुते न सꣳस्कृतत्रम् उप यन्ति ता अभि । उरुगायम् अभयꣳ तस्य ता अनु गावो मर्तस्य वि चरन्ति यज्वनः

na tā arvā reṇukakāṭo aśnute na saṁskṛtatram upa yanti tā abhi | urugāyam abhayaṁ tasya tā anu gāvo martasya vi caranti yajvanaḥ

No dust-raising steed reaches them, nor do they go toward the slaughtering-place; wide-ranging and free of fear — over such (pasture) do the cows of that sacrificing mortal wander.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition — the model flagged this verse as uncertain

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

The charger with his dusty brow o'ertakes them not, and never to the shambles do they take their way. These Cows, the cattle of the pious worshipper, roam over widespread pasture where no danger is.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

Cows are Bhaga; the cows have appeared to me as Indra; cows are a portion of the first Soma. These that are cows — they, O people, are Indra; I long for Indra with my heart and with my mind.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

To me the Cows seem Bhaga, they seem Indra, they seem a portion of the first-poured Soma. These present Cows, they, O ye Indra. I long for Indra with my heart and spirit.

You, cows, fatten even the thin man; even the unlovely one you make fair of face. You make the house auspicious, O you of auspicious lowing; great is the vitality spoken of you in the assemblies.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

O Cows, ye fatten e'en the worn and wasted, and make the unlovely beautiful tolook on. Prosper my house, ye with auspicious voices. Your power is glorified in our assemblies.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

Crop goodly pasturage and be prolific drink pure sweet water at good drinking places. Never be thief or sinful man your matter, and may the dart of Rudra still avoid you.

upedam upaparcanam āsu goṣūpa pṛcyatām | upa ṛṣabhasya retasy upendra tava vīrye

Let this admixture be added to these cows, added to the bull's seed, added, Indra, to your manly might.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition — the model flagged this verse as uncertain

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

Now let this close admixture be close intermigled with these Cows, Mixt with the Steer's prolific flow, and, Indra, with thy hero might.
