RV 5 12.1

prāgnaye bṛhate yajñiyāya ṛtasya vṛṣṇe asurāya manma | ghṛtaṁ na yajña āsye3 supūtaṁ giram bhare vṛṣabhāya pratīcīm

Forth to Agni, the lofty, the worthy of sacrifice, the bull of ṛta, the asura, (I bring) a thought; like ghee well purified in the mouth at the sacrifice, I bear a song turned toward the bull.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

To Agni, lofty Asura, meet for worship, Steer of eternal Law, my prayer I offer; I bring my song directed to the Mighty like pure oil for his mouth at sacrifices.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 5 12.2

ṛtaṁ cikitva ṛtam ic cikiddhy ṛtasya dhārā anu tṛndhi pūrvīḥ | nāhaṁ yātuṁ sahasā na dvayena ṛtaṁ sapāmy aruṣasya vṛṣṇaḥ

O thou who knowest ṛta, take note of ṛta indeed; bore through the many streams of ṛta. I serve ṛta neither by sorcery nor by force nor by duplicity — (the ṛta) of the ruddy bull.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

Mark the Law, thou who knowest, yea, observe it: send forth the full streams of eternal Order. I use no sorcery with might or falsehood the sacred Law of the Red Steer I follow.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 5 12.3

kayā no agna ṛtayann ṛtena bhuvo navedā ucathasya navyaḥ | vedā me deva ṛtupā ṛtūnāṁ nāham patiṁ sanitur asya rāyaḥ

By what (help), O Agni, seeking ṛta with ṛta, wouldst thou be the one aware of our new utterance? The god knows for me, the protector of the seasons, (the knower) of the seasons; I do not (know) the lord of this wealth, of the winner.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition — the model flagged this verse as uncertain

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

How hast thou, follower of the Law eternal, become the knower of a new song, Agni? The God, the Guardian of the seasons, knows me: the Lord of him who won this wealth I know not.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 5 12.4

ke te agne ripave bandhanāsaḥ ke pāyavaḥ saniṣanta dyumantaḥ | ke dhāsim agne anṛtasya pānti ka āsato vacasaḥ santi gopāḥ

Who, O Agni, are the bonds for the deceiver? Which shining protectors will win (them)? Who, O Agni, guard the nourishment of untruth? Who are the guardians of false speech?

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition — the model flagged this verse as uncertain

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

Who, Agni, in alliance with thy foeman, what splendid helpers won for them their riches? Agni, who guard the dwelling-place of falsehood? Who are protectors of the speech of liars?

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 5 12.5

sakhāyas te viṣuṇā agna ete śivāsaḥ santo aśivā abhūvan | adhūrṣata svayam ete vacobhir ṛjūyate vṛjināni bruvantaḥ

These comrades of thine, O Agni, have turned away: being kindly, they have become unkindly. They have harmed themselves by their own words, speaking crooked things to the straightforward man.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

Agni, those friends of thine have turned them from thee: gracious of old, they have become ungracious. They have deceived themselves by their own speeches, uttering wicked words against the righteous.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 5 12.6

yas te agne namasā yajñam īṭṭa ṛtaṁ sa pāty aruṣasya vṛṣṇaḥ | tasya kṣayaḥ pṛthur ā sādhur etu prasarsrāṇasya nahuṣasya śeṣaḥ

He who, O Agni, with reverence invokes for thee the sacrifice, he guards the ṛta of the ruddy bull. To him let a broad, prosperous dwelling come, (and) the offspring of Nahuṣa who spreads on and on.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition — the model flagged this verse as uncertain

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

He who pays sacrifice to thee with homage, O Agni, keeps the Red Steer's Law eternal; Wide is his dwelling. May the noble offspring of Nahusha who wandered forth come hither.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)
