RV 2 10.1

johūtro agniḥ prathamaḥ piteveḻas pade manuṣā yat samiddhaḥ | śriyaṁ vasāno amṛto vicetā marmṛjenyaḥ śravasya1ḥ sa vājī

Agni, much to be called upon, the first, like a father, when kindled by man in Iḷā's place; clothing himself in splendour, immortal, discerning, to be burnished, seeking fame — he is the prize-winner.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

AGNI, first, loudly calling, like a Father, kindled by man upon the seat of worship. Clothed in his glory, deathless, keen of insight, must be adorned by all, the Strong, the Famous.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 2 10.2

śrūyā agniś citrabhānur havam me viśvābhir gīrbhir amṛto vicetāḥ | śyāvā rathaṁ vahato rohitā votāruṣāha cakre vibhṛtraḥ

May Agni of bright beams hear my call with all the songs, the immortal, the discerning. Two dark ones draw his chariot, or two red ones, or the ruddy ones; he has been made, borne in many places.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

May Agni the resplendent hear my calling through all my songs, Immortal, keen of insight. Dark steeds or ruddy draw his car, or carried in sundry ways he makes them red of colour.

RV 2 10.3

uttānāyām ajanayan suṣūtam bhuvad agniḥ purupeśāsu garbhaḥ | śiriṇāyāṁ cid aktunā mahobhir aparīvṛto vasati pracetāḥ

In her who lay outstretched they begot the well-born one; Agni became the embryo in the many-formed ones. Even in the ... one, by night with his greatnesses, unenclosed the far-seeing one dwells.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

On wood supine they got the well-formed Infant: a germ in various-fashioned plants was Agni; And in the night, not compassed round by darkness, he dwells exceeding wise, with rays of splendour.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 2 10.4

jigharmy agniṁ haviṣā ghṛtena pratikṣiyantam bhuvanāni viśvā | pṛthuṁ tiraścā vayasā bṛhantaṁ vyaciṣṭham annai rabhasaṁ dṛśānam

I besprinkle with oblation, with ghee, Agni who dwells facing all the worlds — broad, lofty with his crosswise vigour, most far-extending, impetuous, to be seen among the foods.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

With oil and sacred gifts I sprinkle Agni who makes his home in front of all things living, Broad, vast, through vital power o'er all expanded, conspicuous, strong with all the food that feeds him.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 2 10.5

ā viśvataḥ pratyañcaṁ jigharmy arakṣasā manasā taj juṣeta | maryaśrīḥ spṛhayadvarṇo agnir nābhimṛśe tanvā3 jarbhurāṇaḥ

I besprinkle him who faces (me) from every side; may he enjoy that with a mind free of hostility. Agni, with the beauty of a young man, of colour to be envied, not to be touched with the body, flickering.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

I pour to him who looks in all directions: may he accept it with a friendly spirit. Agni with bridegroom's grace and lovely colour may not be touched when all his form is fury.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 2 10.6

jñeyā bhāgaṁ sahasāno vareṇa tvādūtāso manuvad vadema | anūnam agniṁ juhvā vacasyā madhupṛcaṁ dhanasā johavīmi

May you, prevailing by (our) choice, acknowledge (your) share; with you as messenger may we speak as Manu did. Agni the unfailing, mingling with honey, winning wealth, I call again and again with the ladle, with eloquence.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

By choice victorious, recognize thy portion: with thee for envoy may we speak like Manu. Obtaining wealth, I call on perfect Agni who with an eloquent tongue dispenses sweetness.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)
