Rigveda Samhita — Mandala 1 — Chapter 184

RV 1 184.1

ता वाम् अद्य ताव् अपरꣳ हुवेमोच्छन्त्याम् उषसि वह्निर् उक्थैः । नासत्या कुह चित् सन्ताव् अर्यो दिवो नपाता सुदास्तराय

tā vām adya tāv aparaṁ huvemocchantyām uṣasi vahnir ukthaiḥ | nāsatyā kuha cit santāv aryo divo napātā sudāstarāya

Those two we would call today, those two again later, when Dawn breaks — (I) the conveyer (of offerings), with recitations — the Nāsatyas, wherever they are, (calling them away) from the stranger, the grandsons of Heaven, for the one who gives most generously.

LET us invoke you both this day and after the priest is here with lauds when morn is breaking: Nâsatyas, wheresoe'er ye be, Heaven's Children, for him who is more liberal than the godless.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 1 184.2

asme ū ṣu vṛṣaṇā mādayethām ut paṇīm̐r hatam ūrmyā madantā | śrutam me acchoktibhir matīnām eṣṭā narā nicetārā ca karṇaiḥ

Take your delight with us, you bulls; strike down the Paṇis, rejoicing, with your surge. Hear me with the summonings of my thoughts, O men, seekers and perceivers with your ears.

With us, ye Mighty, let yourselves be joyful, glad in our stream of Soma slay the niggards. Graciously hear my hymns and invitations, marking, O Heroes, with your cars my longing.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 1 184.3

श्रिये पूषन्न् इषुकृतेव देवा नासत्या वहतुꣳ सूर्यायाः । वच्यन्ते वाꣳ ककुहा अप्सु जाता युगा जूर्णेव वरुणस्य भूरेः

śriye pūṣann iṣukṛteva devā nāsatyā vahatuṁ sūryāyāḥ | vacyante vāṁ kakuhā apsu jātā yugā jūrṇeva varuṇasya bhūreḥ

For splendour, O Pūṣan — like arrow-makers, O gods, Nāsatyas — (you conducted) the wedding-procession of Sūryā. Your lofty (steeds), born in the waters, are urged on, like the worn-out yokes(?) of abundant Varuṇa.

Nâsatyas, Pûshans, ye as Gods for glory arranged and set in order Sûryâ's bridal. Your giant steeds move on, sprung from the waters, like ancient times of Varuṇa the Mighty.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 1 184.4

अस्मे सा वाम् माध्वी रातिर् अस्तु स्तोमꣳ हिनोतम् मान्यस्य कारोः । अनु यद् वाꣳ श्रवस्या सुदानू सुवीर्याय चर्षणयो मदन्ति

asme sā vām mādhvī rātir astu stomaṁ hinotam mānyasya kāroḥ | anu yad vāṁ śravasyā sudānū suvīryāya carṣaṇayo madanti

Let that honeyed gift of yours be for us; further the praise-song of the Māna poet, since, O good givers, in pursuit of glory for you, the peoples rejoice for the sake of manly strength.

Your grace be with us, ye who love sweet juices: further the hymn sung by the poet Mâna, When men are joyful in your glorious actions, to win heroic strength, ye Bounteous Givers.

This praise-song has been made for you, Aśvins, by the Mānas, as a fine hymn, O bounteous ones. Drive your circuit for our offspring and for ourselves, taking delight, Nāsatyas, in Agastya.

This praise was made, O liberal Lords, O Aṣvins, for you with fair adornment by the Mânas. Come to our house for us and for our children, rejoicing, O Nâsatyas, in Agastya.

atāriṣma tamasas pāram asya prati vāṁ stomo aśvināv adhāyi | eha yātam pathibhir devayānair vidyāmeṣaṁ vṛjanaṁ jīradānum

We have crossed to the far shore of this darkness; the praise-song has been set in place for you two, Aśvins. Come here by the paths that the gods travel — may we find refreshment, a strong company, quick-flowing (bounty).

We have passed o'er the limit of this darkness: our praise hath been'bestowed on you, O Aṣvins. Come hitherward by paths which Gods have travelled. may we find strengthening food in full abundance.
