Rigveda Samhita — Mandala 1 — Chapter 137

RV 1 137.1

suṣumā yātam adribhir gośrītā matsarā ime somāso matsarā ime | ā rājānā divispṛśāsmatrā gantam upa naḥ | ime vām mitrāvaruṇā gavāśiraḥ somāḥ śukrā gavāśiraḥ

We have pressed with the stones — come! Mixed with milk are these intoxicating somas, these intoxicating (draughts). O you two kings who touch heaven, come hither to us. These are yours, Mitra and Varuṇa, milk-mixed, the bright somas milk-mixed.

WITH stones have we pressed out: O come; these gladdening drops are blent with milk, these Soma-drops which gladden you. Come to us, Kings who reach to heaven, approach us, coming hitherward. These milky drops are yours, Mitra and Varuṇa, bright Soma juices blent with milk.

RV 1 137.2

ima ā yātam indavaḥ somāso dadhyāśiraḥ sutāso dadhyāśiraḥ | uta vām uṣaso budhi sākaṁ sūryasya raśmibhiḥ | suto mitrāya varuṇāya pītaye cārur ṛtāya pītaye

These are the drops — come! — the somas mixed with curds, the pressed ones mixed with curds. And (come) at the waking of the dawns, together with the rays of the sun. It is pressed for Mitra, for Varuṇa to drink, dear, for ṛta to drink.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

Here are the droppings; come ye nigh the Soma-droppings blent with curd, juices expressed and blent with curd. Now for the wakening of your Dawn together with the Sun-God's rays, juice waits for Mitra and for Varuṇa to drink, fair juice for drink, for sacrihce.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)

RV 1 137.3

tāṁ vāṁ dhenuṁ na vāsarīm aṁśuṁ duhanty adribhiḥ somaṁ duhanty adribhiḥ | asmatrā gantam upa no 'rvāñcā somapītaye | ayaṁ vām mitrāvaruṇā nṛbhiḥ sutaḥ soma ā pītaye sutaḥ

That (soma) of yours they milk out like a cow at morning — they milk the stalk with the pressing-stones, they milk the soma with the stones. Come here to us, turned toward us, for the soma-drinking: this soma, O Mitra and Varuṇa, is pressed for you by the men, pressed for the drinking.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

As 'twere a radiant-coloured cow, they milk with stones the stalk for you, with stones they milk the Soma-plant. May ye come nigh us, may ye turn hither to drink the Soma juice. The men pressed out this juice, Mitra and Varuṇa, pressed out this Soma for your drink.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1896)
