पुनरेवं ब्रुवाणं तं भरतं लक्ष्मणाग्रजः। प्रत्युवाच ततः श्रीमाज्ञातिमध्ये सुसत्कृतः॥
punarevaṃ bruvāṇaṃ taṃ bharataṃ lakṣmaṇāgrajaḥ| pratyuvāca tataḥ śrīmājñātimadhye susatkṛtaḥ||
As Bharata was again ng in this strain, his graceful elder brother, having been highly honoured, answered Bharata in the midst of his relatives, saying.

उपपन्नमिदं वाक्यं यस्त्वमेवमभाषथाः। जातः पुत्रो दशरथात् कैकेय्यां राजसत्तमात्॥
upapannamidaṃ vākyaṃ yastvamevamabhāṣathāḥ| jātaḥ putro daśarathāt kaikeyyāṃ rājasattamāt||
Having been born as a son to Daśaratha, foremost of monarchs, by Kaikeyſ, this speech of yours is worthy of you.

पुरा भ्रातः पिता नः स मातरं ते समुद्वहन्। मातामहे समाश्चौषीद् राज्यशुल्कमनुत्तमम्॥
purā bhrātaḥ pitā naḥ sa mātaraṃ te samudvahan| mātāmahe samāścauṣīd rājyaśulkamanuttamam||
O brother, formerly when our father espoused the hand of your mother, he promised her the kingdom as her marriage portion.

देवासुरे च संग्रामे जनन्यै तव पार्थिवः। सम्प्रहृष्टो ददौ राजा वरमाराधितः प्रभुः॥
devāsure ca saṃgrāme jananyai tava pārthivaḥ| samprahṛṣṭo dadau rājā varamārādhitaḥ prabhuḥ||
Then on the occasion of the war between the gods and the Asuras, that master, the king, well pleased (with her), being besought, granted her a boon.

ततः सा सम्प्रतिश्राव्य तव माता यशस्विनी। अयाचत नरश्रेष्ठं द्वौ वरौ वरवर्णिनी॥ तव राज्यं नरव्याघ्र मम प्रव्राजनं तथा। तच्च राजा तथा तस्यै नियुक्तः प्रददौ वरम्॥
tataḥ sā sampratiśrāvya tava mātā yaśasvinī| ayācata naraśreṣṭhaṃ dvau varau varavarṇinī|| tava rājyaṃ naravyāghra mama pravrājanaṃ tathā| tacca rājā tathā tasyai niyuktaḥ pradadau varam||
Having been thus promised, that virtuous lady, your illustrious mother, O foremost of men, asked for two boons (of the king), viz., your enthronement, O best of men, and my banishment. Thus besought by her, the king conferred on her the boon.

तेन पित्राहमप्यत्र नियुक्तः पुरुषर्षभ । चतुर्दश वने वासं वर्षाणि वरदानिकम्।७।।
tena pitrāhamapyatra niyuktaḥ puruṣarṣabha | caturdaśa vane vāsaṃ varṣāṇi varadānikam|7||
And, you foremost of men, I have been enjoyed by my sire to stay in the woods for fourteen years, in consequence of his having granted her the boon.

सोऽयं वनमिदं प्राप्तो निर्जनं लक्ष्मणान्वितः। सीतया चाप्रतिद्वन्द्वः सत्यवादे स्थितः पितुः॥
so'yaṃ vanamidaṃ prāpto nirjanaṃ lakṣmaṇānvitaḥ| sītayā cāpratidvandvaḥ satyavāde sthitaḥ pituḥ||
And, having, in company with Laksmana and Sītā, come to the lone forest, I in humble guise am staying in the truthful speech of my father.

भवानपि तथेत्येव पितरं सत्यवादिनम्। कर्तुमर्हसि राजेन्द्र क्षिप्रमेवाभिषिञ्चनात्॥
bhavānapi tathetyeva pitaraṃ satyavādinam| kartumarhasi rājendra kṣipramevābhiṣiñcanāt||
You too, you foremost of kings, should in the same way speedily render our father truthful, by getting yourself installed.

ऋणान्मोचय राजानं मत्कृते भरत प्रभुम्। पितरं त्राहि धर्मज्ञ मातरं चाभिनन्दय॥
ṛṇānmocaya rājānaṃ matkṛte bharata prabhum| pitaraṃ trāhi dharmajña mātaraṃ cābhinandaya||
O Bharata, for my sake, do you free that lord, the king, from his debts. Do you, O you cognizant of morality, deliver our father and gladden your mother.

श्रूयते धीमता तात श्रुतिर्गीता यशस्विना। गयेन यजमानेन गयेष्वेव पितृन् प्रति॥
śrūyate dhīmatā tāta śrutirgītā yaśasvinā| gayena yajamānena gayeṣveva pitṛn prati||
O child, we hear that in Gaya, formerly the famous Gaya, engaged in a sacrifice, chanted this Vedic hymn, for pleasing his departed ancestors.

पुन्नाम्नो नरकाद् यस्मात् पितरं त्रायते सुतः। तस्मात् पुत्र इति प्रोक्तः पितृन् यः पाति सर्वतः॥
punnāmno narakād yasmāt pitaraṃ trāyate sutaḥ| tasmāt putra iti proktaḥ pitṛn yaḥ pāti sarvataḥ||
Since a son delivers his sire form the hell named Put, a son goes by the appellation of putra, he protecting his (departed) ancestors in every way.

एष्टव्या बहवः पुत्रा गुणवन्तो बहुश्रुताः। तेषां वै समवेतानामपि कश्चिद् गयां व्रजेत्॥
eṣṭavyā bahavaḥ putrā guṇavanto bahuśrutāḥ| teṣāṃ vai samavetānāmapi kaścid gayāṃ vrajet||
One should wish for many sons crowned with qualities and versed in various lore, for the chance is that one at least of these may repair to Gayā.

एवं राजर्षयः सर्वे प्रतीता रघुनन्दन। तस्मात् त्राहि नरश्रेष्ठ पितरं नरकात् प्रभो॥
evaṃ rājarṣayaḥ sarve pratītā raghunandana| tasmāt trāhi naraśreṣṭha pitaraṃ narakāt prabho||
O son of the Raghu race, the Rājarşis have delivered their decision on the point. Therefore, you foremost of men, do you, O lord, rescue your sire from hell.

अयोध्यां गच्छ भरत प्रकृतीरुपरञ्जय। शत्रुघ्नसहितो वीर सह सर्वैद्विजातिभिः॥
ayodhyāṃ gaccha bharata prakṛtīruparañjaya| śatrughnasahito vīra saha sarvaidvijātibhiḥ||
O Bharata, go to Ayodhyā, and please the subjects, in company with Śatrughna, O hero, and all the regenerate ones.

प्रवेक्ष्ये दण्डकारण्यमहमप्यविलम्बयन्। आभ्यां तु सहितो वीर वैदेह्या लक्ष्मणेन च॥
pravekṣye daṇḍakāraṇyamahamapyavilambayan| ābhyāṃ tu sahito vīra vaidehyā lakṣmaṇena ca||
I also, O hero, without delay shall have to enter the forest of Dandaka in company with Lakşmaņa and Sītā.

त्वं राजा भरत भव स्वयं नराणां वन्यानामहमपि राजराणमृगाणाम्। गच्छ त्वं पुरवरमद्य सम्प्रहृष्टः संहृष्टस्त्वहमपिदण्डकान् प्रवेक्ष्ये॥
tvaṃ rājā bharata bhava svayaṃ narāṇāṃ vanyānāmahamapi rājarāṇamṛgāṇām| gaccha tvaṃ puravaramadya samprahṛṣṭaḥ saṃhṛṣṭastvahamapidaṇḍakān pravekṣye||
O Bharata, be you yourself the monarch of men. I shall become the king of kings of deer. Go you to that foremost of cities with a glad heart: with a glad heart will I enter Dandaka.

छायां ते दिनकरभाः प्रबाधमानं वर्षत्रं भरत करोतु मूर्धि शीताम्। एतेषामहमपि काननदुमाणां छायां तामतिशयिनीं शनैः श्रयिष्ये॥
chāyāṃ te dinakarabhāḥ prabādhamānaṃ varṣatraṃ bharata karotu mūrdhi śītām| eteṣāmahamapi kānanadumāṇāṃ chāyāṃ tāmatiśayinīṃ śanaiḥ śrayiṣye||
O Bharata, let the umbrella barring out the rays of the sun, afford cool shade to your head: I shall happily seek the dense shade of these forest trees.

शत्रुघ्नस्त्वतुलमतिस्तु ते सहायः सौमित्रिर्मम विदितः प्रधानमित्रम्। चत्वारस्तनयवरा वयं नरेन्द्र सत्यस्थं भरत चराम मा विषीद॥
śatrughnastvatulamatistu te sahāyaḥ saumitrirmama viditaḥ pradhānamitram| catvārastanayavarā vayaṃ narendra satyasthaṃ bharata carāma mā viṣīda||
Śatrughna endued with cleverness is your helper: Sumitrā's son is well known as my best friend. We four worthy sons of that foremost of monarchs will keep him established in truth, O Bharata. Let not your mind despond.
