mahādeva uvāca| atra tīrthātparaṃ tīrthaṃ saṅgamākhyamiti śrutam | atra sābhramatī gaṃgā militā sāgareṇa tu

Mahādeva said: Beyond that sacred place there is a sacred place here known as Saṅgama ("Confluence"); here the Sābhramatī Gaṅgā has joined with the ocean.

tatra snānaṃ ca dānaṃ ca kartavyaṃ vidhipūrvakam | yatra snātvā tu mucyaṃte mahāpātakino'pi ye

There bathing and giving should be done according to the prescribed rule; bathing there, even those who are guilty of great sins are released.

tatra śrāddhaṃ prakartavyaṃ svānāṃ ca hitamicchatā | yatra vai tu kṛte śrāddhe pitṛloke vaseddhruvam

There the śrāddha should be performed by one who desires the welfare of his own (ancestors); when the śrāddha is performed there, one surely dwells in the world of the fathers.

yatra vai sāgaro devo nityaṃ milati gaṃgayā | brahmahā tatra mucyeta kimanyairitarairaghaiḥ

Where the god Ocean is forever meeting with the Gaṅgā, there even a brahmin-slayer would be released—what then of the other, lesser sins?

yatra tīrthaṃ na jānaṃti lokā vai maṃdabuddhayaḥ | tadā vai mama nāmnā ca kartavyaṃ tīrthamuttamam

Where people of dull wit do not know the sacred place, there this best of sacred places should be made (known) under my name.
