Mārkaṇḍeya said: Having heard this speech of his, (Agni) spoke to that best of the twice-born, the Fire having been propitiated by him with a hymn and with devotion to his teacher: "He shall be Śānti; and when the Fire had departed, with a mind well satisfied, his body bristling with the hairs of joy, he entered, purified, the hermitage of his teacher. He shall then be the Indra of those thirty (gods), of great strength and great valour, endowed with all the qualities of an Indra. When the Bhautya manvantara has been heard, one obtains the favour of the gods, and likewise the agnihotra and sons endowed with good qualities."
