Mārkaṇḍeya said: Then he went in haste and saw in the forest a single maiden, exceedingly charming, adorned with every ornament. Then the king's son cut down with his arrows him who was rushing upon him; and he too seized a tall tree that was near and took his stand in the fight. And she, the daughter of King Viśāla, who was abandoned by me — and by her, for my sake, union with a man was renounced, apart from me. Then she was carried down to Rasātala by him, and there before me nāgas stood by the thousands, and nāga wives, and their young ones.
