She spoke again to her husband, who was brooding with his face downcast: "Why do you not come to joy, O king, at this supreme prosperity? Since it has gone thus, what is to be done here, O lord of men — let it be considered. It will not turn out otherwise than what the gracious Lord Sun has said." As he worshipped the sun and practiced great austerity, when a year and more had passed, then the Maker of Day was pleased. Indeed, one who hears this narrative obtains the same fruit. And the mantras of the shining one that have been declared here, O best of sages — the muttered recitation of each of these at the three junctures of the day removes sin. Thus in the glorious Mārkaṇḍeya Purāṇa, the one hundred and seventh chapter, called the Description of the Greatness of the Sun.
