कर्ण उवाच राधेयोऽहमाधिरथिः कर्णस्त्वामभिवादये। प्राप्ता किमर्थं भवती ब्रूहि किं करवाणि ते॥
karṇa uvāca rādheyo'hamādhirathiḥ karṇastvāmabhivādaye| prāptā kimarthaṃ bhavatī brūhi kiṃ karavāṇi te||
Karna said I am Karna, the son of Radha and the son of Adhiratha and I salute you. Why are you come here? Tell me what I shall do for you.

कुन्त्युवाच कौन्तेयस्त्वं न राधेयो न तवाधिरथः पिता। नासि सूतकुले जातः कर्ण तद् विद्धि मे वचः॥
kuntyuvāca kaunteyastvaṃ na rādheyo na tavādhirathaḥ pitā| nāsi sūtakule jātaḥ karṇa tad viddhi me vacaḥ||
Kunti said You are the son of Kunti and not the son of Radha; nor is Adhiratha your father; you are not born in the race of Suta; know this word of mine to be true.

कानीनस्त्वं मया जातः पूर्वजः कुक्षिणा धृतः। कुन्तिराजस्य भवने पार्थस्त्वमसि पुत्रक॥
kānīnastvaṃ mayā jātaḥ pūrvajaḥ kukṣiṇā dhṛtaḥ| kuntirājasya bhavane pārthastvamasi putraka||
You were begotten on me when I was an unmarried girl and you were the first held in my womb; you were born in the palace of Kuntiraja, my dear son.

प्रकाशकर्मा तपनो योऽयं देवो विरोचनः। अजीजनत् त्वां मय्येष कर्ण शस्त्रभृतां वरम्॥
prakāśakarmā tapano yo'yaṃ devo virocanaḥ| ajījanat tvāṃ mayyeṣa karṇa śastrabhṛtāṃ varam||
The god Tapana or Virochana (Surya) whose duty it is to make everything visible, begot you on me, O Karna, O you foremost of wielders of weapons.

कुण्डली बद्धकवचो देवगर्भः श्रिया वृतः। जातस्त्वमसि दुर्धर्षं मया पुत्र पितुर्गुहे॥
kuṇḍalī baddhakavaco devagarbhaḥ śriyā vṛtaḥ| jātastvamasi durdharṣaṃ mayā putra piturguhe||
O my son, you who are hard to conquer, were brought forth in my father's place by me, and you then wore earrings, and were clad in coats of mail, like a divine being endued with great beauty.

स त्वं भ्रातृनसम्बुद्ध्य मोहाद् यदुपसेवसे। धार्तराष्ट्रान् न तद्युक्तं त्वयि पुत्र विशेषतः॥
sa tvaṃ bhrātṛnasambuddhya mohād yadupasevase| dhārtarāṣṭrān na tadyuktaṃ tvayi putra viśeṣataḥ||
You, who are such, are now, without recognizing your brothers owing to ignorance (of the true story), serving the sons of Dhritarashtra; it is not proper and especially for you, my son.

एतद् धर्मफलं पुत्र नराणां धर्मनिश्चये। यत् तुष्यन्त्यस्य पितरो माता चाप्येकदर्शिनी॥
etad dharmaphalaṃ putra narāṇāṃ dharmaniścaye| yat tuṣyantyasya pitaro mātā cāpyekadarśinī||
It is certainly the duty of men inclined to virtue, my son, to gratify one's father and mother who alone can view things in their proper light.

अर्जुनेनार्जितां पूर्वं हृतां लोभादसाधुभिः। आच्छिद्य धार्तराष्ट्रेभ्यो भुक्ष्व यौधिष्ठिरीं श्रियम्॥
arjunenārjitāṃ pūrvaṃ hṛtāṃ lobhādasādhubhiḥ| ācchidya dhārtarāṣṭrebhyo bhukṣva yaudhiṣṭhirīṃ śriyam||
Snatching from the son of Dhritarashtra, the royal dignity of Yudhishthira, which was originally earned by Arjuna but has now been usurped from them by dishonest persons out of avarice, you enjoy it yourself.

अद्य पश्यन्ति कुरवः कर्णार्जुनसमागमम्। सौभ्रात्रेण समालक्ष्य संनमन्तामसाधवः॥
adya paśyanti kuravaḥ karṇārjunasamāgamam| saubhrātreṇa samālakṣya saṃnamantāmasādhavaḥ||
Let the Kurus see today the union between Karna and Arjuna and seeing the establishment of brotherly feelings between them let dishonest men bow down.

कर्णार्जुनौ वै भवेतां यथा रामजनार्दनौ। आस्थ्यं किं तु लोके स्याद् युवयोः संहितात्मनोः।।१०।
karṇārjunau vai bhavetāṃ yathā rāmajanārdanau| āsthyaṃ kiṃ tu loke syād yuvayoḥ saṃhitātmanoḥ||10|
Karna and Arjuna being united like Rama and Janardana what is there which can not be performed by you in the world?

कर्ण शोभिष्यसे नूनं पञ्चभिर्धातृभिर्वृतः। देवैः परिवृतो ब्रह्मा वेद्यामिव महाध्वरे॥
karṇa śobhiṣyase nūnaṃ pañcabhirdhātṛbhirvṛtaḥ| devaiḥ parivṛto brahmā vedyāmiva mahādhvare||
O Karna, you will surely shine surrounded by your five brothers like Brahma surrounded by the gods seated on the dais on the occasion of a great sacrificial ceremony.

उपपन्नो गुणैः सर्वैयेष्ठः श्रेष्ठेषु बन्धुषु। सूतपुत्रेति मा शब्दः पार्थस्त्वमसि वीर्यवान्॥
upapanno guṇaiḥ sarvaiyeṣṭhaḥ śreṣṭheṣu bandhuṣu| sūtaputreti mā śabdaḥ pārthastvamasi vīryavān||
Endued with all accomplishments you are eldest among all my best relatives; do not use again the term “the son of a Suta" for you are the son of Pritha, endued with prowess.
