वैशम्पायन उवाच तथाऽऽसीनेषु सर्वेषु तेषु राजसु भारत। यदुक्तं कृष्णया सार्धं तत् सर्वं प्रत्यवेदयत्॥
vaiśampāyana uvāca tathā''sīneṣu sarveṣu teṣu rājasu bhārata| yaduktaṃ kṛṣṇayā sārdhaṃ tat sarvaṃ pratyavedayat||
Vaishampayana said: O descendant of Bharata, when all those princes were seated at rest, he related to them the conversation that he had with Krishna.

कोटिकास्यवचः श्रुत्वा शैब्यं सौवीरकोऽब्रवीत्। यदा वाचं व्याहरन्त्यामस्यां मे रमते मनः॥ सीमन्तिनीनां मुख्यायां विनिवृत्तः कथं भवान्। एतां दृष्ट्वा स्त्रियो मेऽन्या यथा शाखामृगस्त्रियः॥ प्रतिभान्ति महाबाहो सत्यमेतद् ब्रवीमि ते। दर्शनादेव हि मनस्तया मेऽपहृतं भृशम्॥ तां समाचक्ष्व कल्याणी यदि स्याच्छैव्य मानुषी।
koṭikāsyavacaḥ śrutvā śaibyaṃ sauvīrako'bravīt| yadā vācaṃ vyāharantyāmasyāṃ me ramate manaḥ|| sīmantinīnāṃ mukhyāyāṃ vinivṛttaḥ kathaṃ bhavān| etāṃ dṛṣṭvā striyo me'nyā yathā śākhāmṛgastriyaḥ|| pratibhānti mahābāho satyametad bravīmi te| darśanādeva hi manastayā me'pahṛtaṃ bhṛśam|| tāṃ samācakṣva kalyāṇī yadi syācchaivya mānuṣī|
Hearing the words of Kotikasya, the Sauvira hero said to Shaivya, "Hearing her words my mind has been inclined towards her. Why have you come unsuccessful from that best of females; having once seen this lady other women appear to me as so many monkeys. O mighty-armed heroes, I tell you the truth. From the very moment I saw her my mind has been entirely captivated by her. Tell me, O Shaivya, if that excellent lady is a human being."

कोटिक उवाच एषा वै दो दी कृष्णा राजपुत्री यशस्विनी॥ पञ्चानां पाण्डुपुत्राणां महिषी सम्मता भृशम्। सर्वेषां चैव पार्थानां प्रिया बहुमता सती॥ तया समेत्य सौवीर सौवीराभिमुखो व्रजा
koṭika uvāca eṣā vai do dī kṛṣṇā rājaputrī yaśasvinī|| pañcānāṃ pāṇḍuputrāṇāṃ mahiṣī sammatā bhṛśam| sarveṣāṃ caiva pārthānāṃ priyā bahumatā satī|| tayā sametya sauvīra sauvīrābhimukho vrajā
Kotika said : She is the illustrious princes, Krishna Draupadi. She is recognised queen of the five sons of Pandu and chaste damsel is highly regarded and loved by all the Parthas. Taking her with you, O Sauvira, proceed towards Sauvira.

वैशम्पायन उवाच एवमुक्तः प्रत्युवाच पश्यामि द्रौपदीमिति॥ पति: सौवीरसिन्धूनां दुष्टभावो जयद्रथः।
vaiśampāyana uvāca evamuktaḥ pratyuvāca paśyāmi draupadīmiti|| pati: sauvīrasindhūnāṃ duṣṭabhāvo jayadrathaḥ|
Vaishampayana said: Being thus addressed the evil-minded Jayadratha, the king of Sindhu, Sauvira and other countries said: "I wish to see Draupadi.”

स प्रविश्याश्रमं पुण्यं सिंहगोष्ठं वृको यथा।॥ आत्मना सप्तमः कृष्णामिदं वचनमब्रवीत्। कुशलं ते वरारोहे भर्तारस्तेऽप्यनामयाः॥ येषां कुशलकामासि तेऽपि कच्चिदनामयाः।
sa praviśyāśramaṃ puṇyaṃ siṃhagoṣṭhaṃ vṛko yathā||| ātmanā saptamaḥ kṛṣṇāmidaṃ vacanamabravīt| kuśalaṃ te varārohe bhartāraste'pyanāmayāḥ|| yeṣāṃ kuśalakāmāsi te'pi kaccidanāmayāḥ|
Like a wolf entering the den of lion, he with six followers entered the holy hermitage and said to Krishna: "Are you well, O excellent lady? Are your husbands well? Are they all well whose prosperity you seek?"

द्रौपद्युवाच अपि ते कुशलं राजन् राष्ट्र कोशे बले तथा॥ कच्चिदेकः शिबीनाढ्यान् सौवीरान् सह सिन्धुभिः। अनुतिष्ठसि धर्मेण ये चान्ये विजितास्त्वया॥
draupadyuvāca api te kuśalaṃ rājan rāṣṭra kośe bale tathā|| kaccidekaḥ śibīnāḍhyān sauvīrān saha sindhubhiḥ| anutiṣṭhasi dharmeṇa ye cānye vijitāstvayā||
Draupadi said : It is all well with your kingdom, countries, treasury and army? Are you, as sole ruler, governing justly the prosperous countries of Sauvira, Shibi, Sindhu and others, that you have brought under your sway?

कौरव्यः कुशली राजा कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः। अहं च भ्रातरश्चास्य यांश्चान्यान् परिपृच्छसि॥ पाद्यं प्रतिगृहाणेदमासनं च नृपात्मज।
kauravyaḥ kuśalī rājā kuntīputro yudhiṣṭhiraḥ| ahaṃ ca bhrātaraścāsya yāṃścānyān paripṛcchasi|| pādyaṃ pratigṛhāṇedamāsanaṃ ca nṛpātmaja|
Kunti's son Yudhishthira, of the Kuru race, his brother, myself and all of whom you have enquired are well? O prince, accept this water to wash your feet and seat. I offer you fifty animals for the breakfast of your followers.

जयद्रथ उवाच एहि मे रथमारोह सुखमाप्नुहि केवलम्॥ गतश्रीकांश्च्युतान् राज्यात् कृपणान् गतचेतसः। अरण्यवासिनः पार्थान् नानुरोढुं त्वमर्हसि॥ नैव प्राज्ञा गतश्रीकं भर्तारमुपयुञ्जते। युञ्जानमनुयुञ्जीत न श्रियः संक्षये वसेत्॥
jayadratha uvāca ehi me rathamāroha sukhamāpnuhi kevalam|| gataśrīkāṃścyutān rājyāt kṛpaṇān gatacetasaḥ| araṇyavāsinaḥ pārthān nānuroḍhuṃ tvamarhasi|| naiva prājñā gataśrīkaṃ bhartāramupayuñjate| yuñjānamanuyuñjīta na śriyaḥ saṃkṣaye vaset||
Jayadratha said: "All well with me; by offering us breakfast you have already done it. Come ride my chariot and be completely happy. It does not behoove you to regard the wretched sons of Pritha who are living in the forest, whose prowess has been spoiled, whose kingdom has been taken away and whose prosperity is gone. A woman of your good sense does not devote herself to a poor husband. She should follow her husband in prosperity and relinquish him when he is in adversity.

श्रिया विहीना राष्ट्राच्च विनष्टाः शाश्वतीः समाः। अलं ते पाण्डुपुत्राणां भक्त्या क्लेशमुपासितुम्॥
śriyā vihīnā rāṣṭrācca vinaṣṭāḥ śāśvatīḥ samāḥ| alaṃ te pāṇḍuputrāṇāṃ bhaktyā kleśamupāsitum||
The sons of Pandu have forever fallen from their high dignity and have lost their kingdom? You should not therefore, out of regard, participate in their miseries.

भार्या मे भव सुश्रोणि त्यजैनान् सुखमाप्नुहि। अखिलान् सिन्धुसौवीरानाप्नुहि त्वं मया सह॥
bhāryā me bhava suśroṇi tyajainān sukhamāpnuhi| akhilān sindhusauvīrānāpnuhi tvaṃ mayā saha||
O you of beautiful hips, renouncing them, be happy by becoming my wife and share with me the kingdoms of Sindhu and Sauvira."

वैशम्पायन उवाच इत्युक्ता सिन्धुराजेन वाक्यं हृदयकम्पनम्। कृष्णा तस्मादपाक्रामद् देशात् सभृकुटीमुखी॥
vaiśampāyana uvāca ityuktā sindhurājena vākyaṃ hṛdayakampanam| kṛṣṇā tasmādapākrāmad deśāt sabhṛkuṭīmukhī||
Being thus addressed by the king of Sindhu with those heart-rending words, Krishna went away from that place with a frowning face.

अवमत्यास्य तद् वाक्यमाक्षिप्य च सुमध्यमा। मैवमित्यब्रवीत् कृष्णा लज्जस्वेति च सैन्धव॥
avamatyāsya tad vākyamākṣipya ca sumadhyamā| maivamityabravīt kṛṣṇā lajjasveti ca saindhava||
Disregarding his words and remonstrating with him that youthful Krishna said to the king of Saindhava, “Do not speak this again. Are you not ashamed?”

सा काक्षमाणा भर्तृणामुपयातमनिन्दिता। विलोभयामास परं वाक्यैर्वाक्यानि युञ्जती॥
sā kākṣamāṇā bhartṛṇāmupayātamaninditā| vilobhayāmāsa paraṃ vākyairvākyāni yuñjatī||
Then expecting the return of her husbands that lady of irreproachable character, began to beguile him completely with intricate words.
