वैशम्पायन उवाच सोऽपरान्तेषु तीर्थानि पुण्यान्यायतनानि च। सर्वाण्येवानुपूर्येण जगामामितविक्रमः॥

vaiśampāyana uvāca so'parānteṣu tīrthāni puṇyānyāyatanāni ca| sarvāṇyevānupūryeṇa jagāmāmitavikramaḥ||

Vaishampayana said : The immeasurably powerful (Arjuna) then saw one after the other all the sacred waters and other holy places that were on the shores of the western ocean.

समुद्रे पश्चिमे यानि तीर्थान्यायतनानि च। तानि सर्वाणि गत्वा स प्रभासमुपजग्मिवान्॥ प्रभासदेशं सम्प्राप्तं बीभत्सुमपराजितम्। सुपुण्यं रमणीयं च शुश्राव मधुसूदनः॥ ततोऽभ्यगच्छत् कौन्तेयं सखायं तत्र माधवः। ददृशाते तदान्योन्यं प्रभासे कृष्णपाण्डवौ॥

samudre paścime yāni tīrthānyāyatanāni ca| tāni sarvāṇi gatvā sa prabhāsamupajagmivān|| prabhāsadeśaṃ samprāptaṃ bībhatsumaparājitam| supuṇyaṃ ramaṇīyaṃ ca śuśrāva madhusūdanaḥ|| tato'bhyagacchat kaunteyaṃ sakhāyaṃ tatra mādhavaḥ| dadṛśāte tadānyonyaṃ prabhāse kṛṣṇapāṇḍavau||

Seeing them all, he at last came to the Prabhasa. When the invincible Bibhatsa (Arjuna) came to the holy and charming Prabhasa, the slayer of Madhu (Krishna) heard of it. Madhava (Krishna) went there to see his friend, the son of Kunti. Krishna and the Pandava (Arjuna) met together.

तावन्योन्यं समाश्लिष्य पृष्ट्वा च कुशलं वने। आस्तां प्रियसखायौ तौ नरनारायणावृषी॥

tāvanyonyaṃ samāśliṣya pṛṣṭvā ca kuśalaṃ vane| āstāṃ priyasakhāyau tau naranārāyaṇāvṛṣī||

They embracing each other, enquire after one another's health. Those two friends, who were none else than the Rishis Nara and Narayana of old, then both sat down together.

ततोऽर्जुनं वासुदेवस्तां चर्यां पर्यपृच्छत। किमर्थं पाण्डवैतानि तीर्थान्यनुचरस्युत॥

tato'rjunaṃ vāsudevastāṃ caryāṃ paryapṛcchata| kimarthaṃ pāṇḍavaitāni tīrthānyanucarasyuta||

Then Vasudeva (Krishna) asked Arjuna about his travels, saying, "O son of Pandu, why are you roaming over the earth seeing all the Tirthas?"

ततोऽर्जुनो यथावृत्तं सर्वमाख्यातवांस्तदा। श्रुत्वोवाच च वार्ष्णेय एवमेतदिति प्रभुः॥

tato'rjuno yathāvṛttaṃ sarvamākhyātavāṃstadā| śrutvovāca ca vārṣṇeya evametaditi prabhuḥ||

Thereupon Arjuna narrated to him every thing that had happened. Having heard all, the lord of the Vrishni race (Krishna) said, “This is what is should be."

तौ विहृत्य यथाकामं प्रभासे कृष्णपाण्डवौ। महीधरं रैवतकं वासायैवाभिजग्मतुः॥

tau vihṛtya yathākāmaṃ prabhāse kṛṣṇapāṇḍavau| mahīdharaṃ raivatakaṃ vāsāyaivābhijagmatuḥ||

Krishna and the Pandava sported at pleasure for same time at the Prabhasa and they then went to the Raivataka mountain to live there for some time.

पूर्वमेव तु कृष्णस्य वचनात् तं महीधरम्। पुरुषा मण्डयाञ्चक्रुरुपजहश्च भोजनम्॥

pūrvameva tu kṛṣṇasya vacanāt taṃ mahīdharam| puruṣā maṇḍayāñcakrurupajahaśca bhojanam||

Before their arrival (at Raivataka), that hill at the command of Krishna, was adorned by many artificers. Much food was also collected there.

प्रतिगृह्यार्जुनः सर्वमुपभुज्य च पाण्डवः। सहैव वासुदेवेन दृष्ट्वान् नटनर्तकान्॥ अभ्यनुज्ञाय तान् सर्वानर्चयित्वा च पाण्डवः। सत्कृतं शयनं दिव्यमभ्यगच्छन्महामतिः॥

pratigṛhyārjunaḥ sarvamupabhujya ca pāṇḍavaḥ| sahaiva vāsudevena dṛṣṭvān naṭanartakān|| abhyanujñāya tān sarvānarcayitvā ca pāṇḍavaḥ| satkṛtaṃ śayanaṃ divyamabhyagacchanmahāmatiḥ||

Enjoying every thing that was provided there for him, the Pandava Arjuna sat with Vasudeva (Krishna) to see the performances of the actors and dancers. Having dismissed them all with proper respect, the high-souled Pandavas laid himself down on a well-adorned and excellent bed.

ततस्तत्र महाबाहुः शयानः शयने शुभे। तीर्थानां पल्वलानां च पर्वतानां च दर्शनम्। आपगानां वनानां च कथयामास सात्वते॥

tatastatra mahābāhuḥ śayānaḥ śayane śubhe| tīrthānāṃ palvalānāṃ ca parvatānāṃ ca darśanam| āpagānāṃ vanānāṃ ca kathayāmāsa sātvate||

When that mighty-armed hero lay on that excellent bed, he described to him (Krishna) the sacred waters, the lakes the mountains, the rivers and the forests that he had seen.

एवं स कथयन्नेव निद्रया जनमेजय। कौन्तेयोऽपि हृतस्तस्मिन् शयने स्वर्गसंनिभे॥

evaṃ sa kathayanneva nidrayā janamejaya| kaunteyo'pi hṛtastasmin śayane svargasaṃnibhe||

O Janamejaya, when he was thus talking as he lay. on the celestials-like bed, sleep (slowly) stole on the son of Kunti.

मधुरेणैव गीतेन वीणाशब्देन चैव ह। प्रबोध्यमानो बुबुधे स्तुतिभिर्मङ्गलैस्तथा॥

madhureṇaiva gītena vīṇāśabdena caiva ha| prabodhyamāno bubudhe stutibhirmaṅgalaistathā||

He rose in the morning, awakened by the sweet songs and melodious notes of the Vina, by the penegyrics and benedictions on the bards.

स कृत्वावश्यकार्याणि वार्ष्णेयेनाभिनन्दितः। रथेन काञ्चनाङ्गेन द्वारकामभिजग्मिवान्॥

sa kṛtvāvaśyakāryāṇi vārṣṇeyenābhinanditaḥ| rathena kāñcanāṅgena dvārakāmabhijagmivān||

After he had performed the daily rites, he was accosted with affection by the hero of the Vrishni race (Krishna). Then riding on a golden car he set out for Dvarka.

अलंकृता द्वारका तु बभूव जनमेजय। कुन्तीपुत्रस्य पूजार्थमपि निष्कुटकेष्वपि॥

alaṃkṛtā dvārakā tu babhūva janamejaya| kuntīputrasya pūjārthamapi niṣkuṭakeṣvapi||

O Janamejaya, Dwarka with its streets, gardens and houses was well adorned to give a grand reception to the son of Kunti.

दिदृक्षन्तश्च कौन्तेयं द्वारकावासिनो जनाः। नरेन्द्रमार्गमाजग्मुस्तूर्णं शतसहस्रशः॥

didṛkṣantaśca kaunteyaṃ dvārakāvāsino janāḥ| narendramārgamājagmustūrṇaṃ śatasahasraśaḥ||

The citizens of Dvarka, in order to see the son of Kunti, eagerly came to the royal (Public) i streets in hundreds and thousands.

अवलोकेषु नारीणां सहस्राणि शतानि च। भोजवृष्ण्यन्धकानां च समवायो महानभूत्॥

avalokeṣu nārīṇāṃ sahasrāṇi śatāni ca| bhojavṛṣṇyandhakānāṃ ca samavāyo mahānabhūt||

In order to see him hundreds and thousands of women and men of the Vrishni, the Andhaka and the Bhoja races formed into a great crowd.

स तथा सत्कृतः सर्वैर्भोजवृष्ण्यन्धकात्मजैः। अभिवाद्याभिवाद्यांश्च सर्वेश्च प्रतिनन्दितः॥

sa tathā satkṛtaḥ sarvairbhojavṛṣṇyandhakātmajaiḥ| abhivādyābhivādyāṃśca sarveśca pratinanditaḥ||

He was respectfully welcomed by all the Bhojas, the Vrishnis and the Andhakas. He in return worship and received their blessings in return.

कुमारैः सर्वशो वीरः सत्कारेणाभिचोदितः। समानवयसः सर्वानाश्लिष्य स पुनः पुनः॥

kumāraiḥ sarvaśo vīraḥ satkāreṇābhicoditaḥ| samānavayasaḥ sarvānāśliṣya sa punaḥ punaḥ||

The hero was accorded the most welcome and affectionate reception by all the young men (of the Yadava race), He too again and again embraced those that were of his own age.

कृष्णस्य भवने रम्ये रत्नभोज्यसमावृते। उवास सह कृष्णेन बहुलास्तत्र शर्वरीः॥

kṛṣṇasya bhavane ramye ratnabhojyasamāvṛte| uvāsa saha kṛṣṇena bahulāstatra śarvarīḥ||

In the delightful mansion of Krishna, adorned with gems and filled with every article of enjoyment, he passed many nights with Krishna.
