Having heard that pleasing speech of the pleased one true to his promise, Śakra, lord of the thirty (gods), bowing with his head to the lotus foot of the god of gods, Kṛṣṇa, before his eyes, went to heaven. This narrative is life-giving, meritorious, destructive of sin, producing the favour of the rain-god, warding off drought, bringing all comforts and delights, a supreme secret of the gods. Then, when Śakra had gone, the glorious Kṛṣṇa, bearer of Govardhana, honoured by the dwellers of the cattle-station, entered the cattle-station.

The hair of those cowherd women, its parting bound up, disordered by thoughts of love-making, slipped down prettily onto the tips of their breasts. // Then Dāmodara, eager for love, took hold of some of them. Thus the charming cowherd women delighted Kṛṣṇa, adorned, singing very sweetly, unsteady with wine. And Kṛṣṇa too, with eyes reddened by wine, increaser of the gopīs' joy — Viṣṇu drank in their faces, rolling about the bee that was his eye. Taking another cowherd girl by her garment, he kissed her; and then Kṛṣṇa, his eyes full of intoxication, embraced yet another. Govinda, who knows the arrangements of love-play, lay down with another; taking another's garment and looking at her, he prettily drank in her face; Govinda, Keśava, scratched another with his sharp nails. And seizing another by her hair and lifting up her face in play, Govinda then embraced her, he who was concealed in cowherd's dress. Having taken hold of one and let her go, he released another; while one looked on he pleasured her, and pleasured yet another. Calling one, the lord of gods pleasured yet another; then seizing her again suddenly, he pleasured her in that other's presence. And those gopīs, abandoning even their own husbands, (chose) Hari alone: "He indeed is our eldest and our best" — so those lovely women came to the highest state of feeling toward Kṛṣṇa, the lord of the gods of gods. Thus that Kṛṣṇa, adorned by the encircling rings of the gopīs, took his pleasure happily on autumn nights that had the moon in them.
