Having received the gem-jewel Syamantaka from Kṛṣṇa's hand and bound it on, the son of Gāndinī shone like the radiant sun. // But whoever, having become pure and composed, hears this constantly, will be a partaker of the fruit of all the pleasures he intends. And fame and renown reaching even to Brahmā's abode will be his — there is no doubt, O best of men; I tell you this truly. Then all the foremost of the Yadus, delighted, with palms joined, those great-souled ones, bowed to the lotus-eyed Kṛṣṇa. "I wish to hear in full detail, without remainder, all the deeds of the slayer of enemies, of Hari Kṛṣṇa the wise. // In the Purāṇas there is the manifestation of Viṣṇu of measureless splendour: from the good, as they tell it, we have heard of it as 'the Boar'. I do not know his exploit, nor the manner of it, nor its extent, nor the succession of his acts and qualities, nor the cause, nor the purpose. Of what nature is that Boar, what is his form and what deity is he? What is his conduct, or his power, or what was done by him of old? To those gathered for the sacrifice and to the twice-born looking on, (tell) the exploit of the Great Boar as declared by Kṛṣṇa Dvaipāyana: how Nārāyaṇa, O brahman, taking the boar's form, the slayer of foes, lifted up with his tusk the earth that lay in the ocean. And the sequence of the lord's deeds and his manifestations, and what his essential nature is, O brahman — that too you should expound."
