The father of Soma, O king, was born as the lord seer Atri. So now, O king, let the purifying lineage of Soma be heard, in which the kings beginning with Aila, of meritorious fame, are celebrated; in which was born Hari himself, Kṛṣṇa, the purifier of the three worlds. From the lotus in the navel-lake of the thousand-headed Person, of the Ordainer thus born there was a son, Atri, equal to his father in qualities — (born) from the mind of Brahmā, formerly, when he wished to bring about the creation of creatures. There Atri stood, encompassed by his own disciplines, before all the worlds; by deed, by thought, and by speech he practised only what was auspicious.
