Then Kṛṣṇa, having fed very many hundreds of brahmins who were like sages, had accomplished what was to be done. [104.1] Having worshipped the thousand-rayed sun, the maker of light, lord of the world, he then ate with me and with the Vṛṣṇis and Bhojas all together, and putting Sātyaki in front, he fed the Vṛṣṇi chiefs. Then we entered the assembly hall along with the foremost of the Vṛṣṇis, and he told varied and wondrous tales, O Bhārata.

That is the goal of the Sāṃkhyas, O Pārtha, and of the yogins and ascetics; that station is the supreme brahman; it apportions the whole world. [11] Sun-coloured, spotless, established beyond darkness — you should know that treasure, that splendour, to be none other than me, O Bhārata. I am the ocean with its waters made still, and I am the stiller of the water.

I am those seven mountains of yours, the various ones you saw; and that darkness like mud which you beheld — [13] I am that darkness grown dense, and I too am the cleaver of it. And as for that long road (traversed) and the going and returning that was done: I went by the power of yoga and came back swiftly from there. And I am the time of beings, and I am proclaimed to be dharma; the moon and sun, the great mountains, the rivers and the lakes; the four classes are born from me, and the four stages of life as well.

Know destruction and creation to consist of me, son of Kuntī, O Bhārata; the existent and the non-existent are my very self, and that which is beyond the existent and the non-existent. [22] Hear this further, other, eternal secret: that which in all the Vedas and wholly in the Purāṇas has always been declared as foremost by all the best of sages, O Pārtha — joined with the three sounds, marked by Ṛg, Yajus and Sāman, called the Praṇava: know that to be me, mighty-armed lord of the earth. Muttering this, mighty-armed one, make obeisance to me with effort; then you will know me rightly — this I swear to you as truth. Abandoning everything else, mighty-armed one, be devoted to this; this alone is the highest good, no deliberation is to be made about it. Thus was I addressed by Kṛṣṇa in his pleasure, O bull of the Bharatas, and so my mind was ever fixed on Janārdana.
