But Mādhava, seeing me ashamed, comforted (me); and (the brahmin), reproaching (me) in Kṛṣṇa's presence, (said): "Look at my folly, that I put faith in a eunuch's boasting! Neither Pradyumna, nor Aniruddha, nor Rāma, nor Keśava — whom they are able to rescue, what other lord could be its protector? A curse on Arjuna of empty words, a curse on the bow of that self-praiser! Struck by fate, out of stupidity the fool comes (here) too." While the brahmin sage was thus cursing, the hero (Kṛṣṇa), resorting to the Vaiṣṇava lore, went to Saṃyaminī, where the lord Yama dwells. Not seeing the brahmin's offspring, he then went to Indra's city, and to Agni's, Nirṛti's, Soma's, Vāyu's and Varuṇa's (cities), to Rasātala, to the vault of heaven, and to other abodes, weapon raised. Then, not obtaining the brahmin's son, his promise unfulfilled, he wished to enter the fire, but was forbidden by Kṛṣṇa and Pradyumna. "I shall show you the brahmin's son; do not despise yourself by yourself. These men will establish your ample fame." Having spoken to me thus out of affection, and having consoled that brahmin, he spoke these words:
