And by the curse of the sage Kapila they were reduced to ashes; hearing that, the king wept and went into the deep forest. The Blessed Lord said: Go quickly, O mistress of the gods, to Bhārata, by the curse of Bhāratī; by my command make all the sons of Sagara (your) attendants. And on the new-moon day (the merit is) equal to that, double in the southern course (of the sun); and then tenfold merit for men in the northern course. (She said:) Sinners will hand over to me whatever sins they have; by what will those (sins) of mine perish? Tell that means, O Lord. (He said:) Whoever should say "Gaṅgā, Gaṅgā," even from hundreds of yojanas away, is freed from all sins and goes to Viṣṇu's world; to him I grant dwelling in my own world and make him my attendant — or (if) he should give up his life anywhere else, preceded by the remembrance of your name.
