gāyatrīhṛdayam nārada uvāca bhagavan devadeveśa bhūtabhavyajagatprabho | kavacaṃ ca śrutaṃ divyaṃ gāyatrīmantravigraham

The Heart of Gāyatrī. Nārada said: O Lord, O ruler of the gods of gods, O master of the world past and future, the divine armour has been heard (by me), which is the very embodiment of the Gāyatrī mantra.

adhunā śrotumicchāmi gāyatrīhṛdayaṃ param | yaddhāraṇādbhavetyuṇyaṃ gāyatrījapato'khilam

Now I wish to hear the supreme Heart of Gāyatrī, by the bearing of which everything becomes pure for one who recites the Gāyatrī.

Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: The Heart of the Goddess has been declared plainly in the Nārada-Atharvaṇa (text); that very (Heart) I shall proclaim, the secret of secrets.

Having meditated on the great Goddess Gāyatrī, mother of the Vedas, whose form is the Cosmic Body (Virāj), one should then meditate upon these deities in her limbs. The placement (nyāsa): heaven is the deity in the head; the two Aśvins in the rows of teeth; the two twilights are the lips; the mouth is fire; the tongue is Sarasvatī; in the neck is Bṛhaspati; in the two breasts the eight Vasus; in the arms the Maruts; in the heart Parjanya; the belly is the sky; in the navel the mid-region; in the two hips Indra and Agni; in the loins Prajāpati, dense with knowledge; Kailāsa and Malaya are the two thighs; the All-gods in the knees; in the shanks Kauśika; the two solstices in the secret parts; the thighs are the Fathers; the feet are the earth; the forest-trees in the fingers; the seers are the body-hairs; the nails are the muhūrtas; in the bones the planets; blood and flesh are the seasons; the years, verily, are the blink (of an eye); day and night are the sun and the moon. I go for refuge to the eminent, divine Gāyatrī of a thousand eyes. Oṃ, homage to that Choice One of Savitṛ; oṃ, homage to that Prior Unconquered One; homage to that morning Sun; homage to the establishment of that morning Sun. Reciting (this) in the morning, one destroys the sin committed at night; reciting it in the evening, one destroys the sin committed by day; reciting it evening and morning, one becomes sinless. One becomes (as if) bathed in all sacred fords; one becomes known to all the gods; one becomes purified from speaking what should not be spoken; one becomes purified from eating what should not be eaten; one becomes purified from consuming what should not be consumed; one becomes purified from sucking what should not be sucked; one becomes purified from accomplishing what should not be accomplished; one becomes purified from a hundred thousand wrongful acceptances of gifts; one becomes purified from accepting anything whatever; one becomes purified from defiling the dining-row; one becomes purified from untrue speech. Then one who is not a chaste student becomes a chaste student. When this Heart has been recited, one has (as it were) sacrificed with a thousand rites. The fruits obtainable by the recitation of six million Gāyatrīs come about. One should have eight brahmins duly receive it; his success comes about. The brahmin who, pure, recites this daily in the morning is released from all sins — so (it is said); he is honoured in the world of Brahmā. Thus spoke the Lord Śrī Nārāyaṇa.

piṇḍabrahmāṇḍayoraikyādbhāvayetsvatanau tathā | devīrūpe nije dehe tanmayatvāya sādhakaḥ

Because of the identity of the individual body and the cosmic egg, the practitioner should thus contemplate (them) in his own body — his own body being of the form of the Goddess — in order to become one with her.

nādevo'bhyarcayeddevamiti vedavido viduḥ | tato'bhedāya kāye sve bhāvayeddevatā imāḥ

"One who is not a god should not worship a god" — so the knowers of the Veda know. Therefore, for the sake of non-difference, one should contemplate these deities in one's own body.

atha tatsampravakṣyāmi tanmayatvamatho bhavet | gāyatrīhṛdayasyāsyāpyahameva ṛṣiḥ smṛtaḥ

Now I shall declare that fully, whereby identity with her would then come about. Of this Heart of Gāyatrī I myself am held to be the seer.

gāyatrīcchanda uddiṣṭaṃ devatā parameśvarī | pūrvoktena prakāreṇa kuryādaṅgāni ṣaṭkramāt | āsane vijane deśe dhyāyedekāgramānasaḥ

The metre is declared to be gāyatrī, the deity is the Supreme Goddess. In the manner stated before one should perform the six limb-(rites) in order. Seated in a solitary place, one should meditate with a one-pointed mind.
