Tell (me) what the region called Vṛndāvana is like, and of what nature. Setting these out separately, describe the rāsa-play and the water-play, O lord. Nārāyaṇa said: Brahmā, Śiva, Śeṣa, Vighneśa (Gaṇeśa), Kūrma, Dharma, and I myself, and Nara and Kārttikeya — we nine are portions of Śrī Kṛṣṇa. And the two of them performed austerity there for ten thousand years, O sage, in a solitary place on the bank of the Suprabhā, in order to see Śrī Kṛṣṇa. — (his face) endowed with the curving arch of the brows, bright with wondrous collyrium, resplendent with a row of teeth like the seeds of a ripe pomegranate. Aditi is indeed Devakī, and the mother of the serpent (Śeṣa) is Rohiṇī; Kaśyapa is Vasudeva, the great father of Śrī Kṛṣṇa. Nanda held the festival for another's son with the utmost reverence; then Yaśodā gave gladly to the gopīs and to the brahmins. Seeing Hari together with his wife, Nanda became delighted. The nurse bathed the boy with cool water. There she had men who knew the mantras, and elders, and the throngs of gopīs recite the Vedas and the sole auspicious name of Hari. Yaśodā, Rohiṇī and Nanda remained in the house filled with joy.
