Seeing her, beautiful and lovely, the mighty one spoke by his illusive power, in order to know the inner truth of her, the sage's wife. In a waterless, deserted, pleasant place, on mountain after mountain, river after river, in a flower-garden in bloom, with a breeze of fragrant flowers: "I have come into your presence to know your inner (heart); and I know your minds, yet I am prompted by fate." Having said this, Dharma, the world's teacher, stood before her. And that chaste woman, recognizing him, at once said — O Parvata — : "Among all Vaiṣṇavas, among ascetics, among brahmacārins, among faithful wives, among the wise, among forest-dwellers, among mendicants, and in the places of gambling, liquor-drinking and quarrels, and in places lacking śālagrāma, holy men, sacred fords and Purāṇas... Take a boon; I shall give it, O you who have protected me." "Let your husband be young and a hero in love-making, O maiden; guard all your circle of kinsmen and all your own wealth." And when a week had passed, at a rare and most auspicious moment, those gods became free of enemies by her grace. By Kṛṣṇa's command she became, at the end of the kalpa, Dakṣa's daughter. And having told all else that was to come, she went away, forbidden by her own mother and by her sisters, and sorrowful.
