And he, long ago, while performing austerities, came, my dear, to this lovely Malaya valley in the lands of Bharata. — Hearing that speech of his, he chose the boon higher than the highest: devotion at my very feet, and servitude to me. — Sages, seers, and siddhas, joyfully pronouncing blessings, and all the gods, filled with delight, praised the king. — And that wanton woman became full of desire, her wits destroyed, thinking day and night, in dream and in waking, of the four-faced one. — "Having beheld him in mind, go to that beloved together with your friend" — having tied up her skirt-knot and her hair, and put on the attire she desired. — "I am able neither to go nor to stay; I am moved to lie down. A curse on the class of wanton women, and on me especially!" — For a moment she danced, for a long while, for a moment she sang with fine song — music connected with me, bewitching the minds of devotees. — "O you who ever dwell upon women, to whom a woman is dearer than life, whose vehicle is woman, whose weapon is woman, whose kinsman is woman — homage to you!"
