— (all this) in a place filled with the moonlight of the full moon, more charming even than heaven, made fragrant by the breeze bearing flowers of every kind. Some excellent ones held rubies in their hands, some held sapphires; some held syamantaka gems and some moonstones. With stairways of the finest sandalwood, with pillars made of conch, with door-panels of the best iron, with silver ones bright with (finial) pots. She arose from half a portion of Śrī Kṛṣṇa and is equal to him in splendour; the earth is purified by the dust of her lotus feet, and the good constantly long for firm devotion to her. I consider myself the best of those endowed with virtues and exceedingly handsome. Ah, her beauty! ah, her attire! ah, her fresh youth! In Nandana, in the valley of Mandara, in the forest grown on the Kāverī's bank, on every lovely mountain, in every river, in every stream. And having quickly taken him on his lap, the mighty Lord wept. Brahmā, sprinkling the king's body with water from his water-pot: bathing at all the sacred fords, circumambulation of the earth, initiation at all the sacrifices, and whatever great gifts there are — the husband is always the protector, and in his absence his son; in the three conditions of women three protectors are handed down; nothing is dearer to a woman than her husband, nothing higher than her husband. Sunk in Kṛṣṇa's lotus foot, as is the mind of the Vaiṣṇavas; the man of pleasure attains extinction when his pleasures are cut away. Enjoy the delight of heaven for a poet's year together with your lord. Remembering her (former) birth, greatly virtuous, beautiful, a portion of Kamalā. In Kānyakubja, Bhanandana, best of kings, of wide stride, though master of his senses and wise, nevertheless fell into a swoon. Terrified, he quickly and respectfully questioned the people who passed on the road: the union of a clever woman with a clever man is a thing of merit, O king. Having spoken thus, Nanda fell silent in the assembly. The best of kings, bowed low in humility, said to him, O sage. He took his pleasure in that lovely solitary spot and knew neither day nor night; she was distressed by the loss even of the blink of an eye without her lord. With beautiful campaka trees in flower, most delightful, and (with places) perfumed all around by the fragrant breeze, O sage. Having built Nanda's dwelling, its crest gleaming with pots made of solid gold, he wandered through the city again; and he fashioned (a place) solely for the play of Rādhā and Mādhava. Then near Madhuvana, in a solitary and most charming (spot), made fragrant with sandal, aguru, musk and kuṅkuma, and with things fit for fresh love-adornment, that increase desire. Nārāyaṇa said: Formerly the king Kedāra, himself lord of the seven continents, performed austerity for sixty thousand years in deep solitude; Śrī Kṛṣṇa, tender to his devotees, appeared before him. And she, the mistress of the gods, became a tree through Hari's curse; and by her curse Hari became the śālagrāma. Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: Rādhā is mistress of the rāsa, dweller in the rāsa, mistress of the relishers (of love), dearer than life to Kṛṣṇa, beloved of Kṛṣṇa, having Kṛṣṇa's own form; she is a mass of supreme bliss, herself embodied, a chaste woman; therefore she is celebrated by the Vedas as having the form of supreme bliss. At Puṣkara, the great sacred place, on a holy day, in the assembly of the gods, at the recital of Rādhā's power, with a well-pleased mind — now I wish to hear: tell that secret. And in the morning, having seen the city, what did the cowherds say, O sage? And all who were in Vṛndāvana, with cheerful faces and eyes, joyfully entered each his own excellent dwelling.
