Homage to Śrī Gaṇeśa. Homage to Śrī Sarasvatī. Homage to Śrī Gopījanavallabha. Having bowed to Nārāyaṇa and to Nara, best of men, and to the goddess Sarasvatī and to Vyāsa, one should then utter 'Victory!' Nārada said: O brahmin, first I heard the delightful Brahma Section from the lotus-mouth of Brahmā, and most wonderful it was.

And (tell me) the Śrī Kṛṣṇa Birth Section, which cuts off birth and the rest for men, a lamp of all truths, destroyer of karma, giver of devotion to Hari. Tell (me): in whose family was the birth, that fine mockery (wrought) by Māyā? What did Hari do on coming (here), and in what form? Better than austerity, muttered prayer, great gifts, the seeing of holy places on earth, the recitation of scripture, fasting, vows, and even worship of the gods: he who at once speaks the tale of Kṛṣṇa purifies the whole lineage of himself and of those who hear it, raising up a hundred hundred men. The seers, the sages, the perfected ones and all the deities are pleased (with him); and he is everywhere free of fear, happy, by Kṛṣṇa's grace. He whose mind is on Hari's lotus feet in dream and in waking knowledge, day and night, and who outwardly enjoys the fruition of former deeds — he is a Vaiṣṇava. Whatever men see a devotee going along the road, their sins accumulated over seven births are certainly destroyed.
