from whom the various sciences were obtained, and the many weapons so hard to win: him, the teacher, the lord of the worlds, I wish to see now. — "Wait a moment, wait a moment; hear these words, brother: a man in the company of a woman, staying in a private place, is not to be looked upon at all." — "But Śaṅkara is of every form, and Pārvatī too is of every form; what play can there be for one beyond the qualities, and how, O mighty one, could there be any breaking of it? Where is the power of retention for intelligence, or the remembering of memory? The sun is not burnt by his own heat — so it is agreed. Within the light there is eternally a body dark and lovely, two-armed, with the flute in its hand, smiling, clad in yellow. From Mahāviṣṇu, by a fraction (of himself), then arose the lesser Virāṭ; in the lotus of his navel is Brahmā, and Śaṃkara is born of his forehead. The goddess who presides over the intellect, who gives birth to knowledge, joined with power — she is Durgā, the beloved of the trident-bearer: where has her modesty gone?"
