Having fought for seven days, (Rāma) with effort by the brahma-weapon — the king, being without the armour, fell together with his son. When Sahasrākṣa had fallen, Kārtavīryārjuna himself, the great hero, came, accompanied by two hundred thousand akṣauhiṇīs. Because of the king's net of arrows, Rāma, best of weapon-bearers, could see neither his own army nor the king's army. And Śaṅkara, of great knowledge, by his great knowledge, in play, quickly brought the brahmin back to life at Nārāyaṇa's command. "Then Bhṛgu ('s son) is able to slay the king" — thus, Nārada, hearing the bodiless voice, Śaṅkara took the form of a brahmin. "And that woman, dear to me as life, is chaste, born from a portion of Padmā; in sacrifices she is a wife, in affection like a mother, a playful companion." Then arose the lesser Virāṭ, the supreme cause of all, who is himself the creator Brahmā, arisen from the lotus of his navel. As a potter is unable to make a pot without clay, and a goldsmith is unable to make an earring without gold — this knowledge was given and given to me, Rāma, at Puṣkara, at the time of initiation, in the month of Māgha, in the presence of the foremost of sages. All, with every limb thrilled with bristling hair, filled with joy, holding dūrvā grass and flowers in their hands, uttering auspicious blessings. The guru indeed gives knowledge, and knowledge gives devotion to Hari; who is a kinsman beyond him who bestows devotion to Hari? Kṛṣṇa is the self, Śiva is knowledge, I am the mind in all living beings, Viṣṇu is the life-breaths, she is Prakṛti endowed with all powers, my son.
