He on whose neck (was) the lovely armour of Mahālakṣmī was thereby endowed with supreme sovereignty and a conqueror of the three worlds. Those weapons (were reduced to) powder by contact with the king's body; all the brothers of Bhṛgu were astonished, O great sage. Bhṛgu hurled various missiles, first fitting them (to the bow) with a mighty aim; the great king cut them down in play by his own fitting (of arrows). And the armour of Mahālakṣmī, hard to obtain in the three worlds, was worn on the neck with devotion and according to rule by Puṣkarākṣa. "And what sort of armour is it, and what is the fruit of it for those two? And of what kind are the two mantras? Tell me that, O teacher of the world." On an eight-petalled lotus (drawn) with sandal paste one should worship with a lotus flower; having duly worshipped the host (of attendants) and offered the sixteen services... — which armour Viṣṇu who lies on the milk-ocean wears on his right arm, and which Śeṣa, a portion of Nārāyaṇa, with devotion places on his neck. "Oṃ śrīṃ padmanivāsinyai svāhā" — may it always protect my navel; "oṃ hrīṃ śrīṃ saṃsāramātre svāhā" — may it always protect my chest. He on whose neck this armour is, is possessed of all merit, wise, consecrated in all sacrifices, and bathed in all sacred fords.
