Mahādeva said: Oṃ śrīṃ, homage to Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the most utterly complete one, svāhā. Among mantras this is the great king of mantras, of seventeen syllables. (One should meditate on him) with all his limbs anointed with sandal paste, wearing yellow garments, the excellent one, and continually gazed upon by the smiling gopīs. And one should worship with devotion Rādhikā, the mistress of the gopīs, the root nature, the sovereign lady, Kṛṣṇa's power, worshipped by Kṛṣṇa. I bow to him who bears a form exceedingly lovely, incomparable, mighty—and also an utterly terrible form. He who among the seasons is spring and among the months is Mārgaśīrṣa, and among the lunar days the eleventh—I bow to him whose form is everything. He who is the strength of the strong and the mind of the swift-moving, who is time among those that reckon—him, the extraordinary one, I salute. He who among all supports is the wind, as the self is (the support) of those with eternal form, who is space among pervading things—him, the pervader, I salute. The man who recites this hymn to Śrī Kṛṣṇa at the three junctures of the day becomes, in Bhārata, a giver of dharma, wealth, pleasure, and liberation.

This (mantra) is mastered by five hundred thousand recitations, O bull among sages; the fire-offering is a tenth of that, the sprinkling a tenth of that, the libation a tenth of that, and the wiping a tenth of that; and a hundred gold pieces is the fee for the preliminary observance.
