Then the great king, having bathed and sipped water, having performed the three placings (nyāsa) of the mantras upon his own hands, limbs and body, performed the purification of the elements — (meditating on) her who is the form of all, the support of all beings, higher than the highest, whose nature is all knowledge, all mantras, all power; rich with jewelled bracelets and ornaments, adorned with jewelled noose and goad, her fingers gleaming with masses of jewelled rings; the slayer of all demons and the destroyer of Raktabīja, who took the form of Nṛsiṃha's power at the killing of Hiraṇyakaśipu. "Welcome, blessed mother, from Śiva's world, O beloved of Śiva; be gracious to me, auspicious one; homage to you, Bhadrakālī. You are the very form of all the powers of Kṛṣṇa the Supreme Self; you remove birth, death, old age and disease, and are higher than the highest. O Padmāvatī, Triparṇāśā, Vipāśā, Virajā, Prabhā, Śatahradā, Celagaṅgā — be present in this water. Let the sweet wine set in a jewelled vessel, well purified and most auspicious, the honey-mixture, be graciously accepted, O great goddess, with affection. Let the divine, excellent couch strewn with heaps of the finest jewels and sewn with fine cloths, O goddess, be accepted as your bed." Having duly worshipped the sixty-four yoginīs and offered oblation according to his ability, the wise man makes praise. And let the nature of the māyās (the mothers?) be heard, O best of sages: I shall declare what is taught in the Atharvaveda; on transgression there is loss of the fruit.
