Śrī Nārāyaṇa said: The mighty grandson of Dhruva, Nandi, the delight of Utkala, descended from the line of Manu Svāyambhuva, truthful, with senses subdued. He (i.e. the sage) put a proper question, (asking their) caste and name separately; the king gave answer in turn to that bull among sages. Those deluders to whom Māyā shows no grace, O king — those ill-fated ones she binds with Māyā, with the net of delusion. Whoever, best of men, receives the Kṛṣṇa-mantra from a devotee of Kṛṣṇa, would rescue a thousand men of his own forefathers. Having said this, the best of sages, a treasury of compassion, gave to the two of them the rule of the worship of Durgā, and the hymn, the armour (kavaca), and the mantra.
