Nārāyaṇa said: The goddess who presides over cows, the first of cows, the mother of cows, the chief of cows, Surabhi, arose in Goloka; and she became the pleasure-pool of the cowherd women and of Rādhā. Made of jewels, she came into being at once by the will of the Lord of the pool. In a pot, or on a cow's head, or on a bound post of cows, or in a śālagrāma stone, or in water, or in fire, a twice-born should worship Surabhi. From milk comes ghee, from that sacrifice, and from that the pleasure of the god. And whoever, filled with devotion, recites this hymn of great merit—
