In Goloka there was formerly a cowherd woman, Suśīlā, beloved of Hari, foremost after Rādhā, her companion, blessed, honoured, charming, exceedingly beautiful, a lovely woman, fortunate, fine-toothed, chaste. — Then, at once perceiving her coming swiftly, the Lord, fearing a quarrel, vanished. — A woman's pride grows day by day from her husband's good fortune; and if a woman is good, then, since prosperity comes from that, one should always serve her in accordance with dharma. — Service to a guru, service to brahmins, service to the gods and the rest — these are not worth a sixteenth part of the service of a husband's feet. — (He saw) her, the colour of molten gold, with the radiance of ten million moons, exceedingly desirable, beautiful, most charming. — Sacrifice, together with Dakṣiṇā, with (their) son and with fruit — thus the knowers of the Veda know (him) as the giver of the fruit of rites. — The Fathers do not accept the śrāddha-offering and libation given by such a one; likewise the gods (do not accept) the worship offered by him, nor the oblation given into the fire. — Whatever is the meditation on Dakṣiṇā, her hymn, and the sequence of the rules of her worship — all that, as stated in the Kāṇva recension, I shall declare: listen. — The giver of fruit is the supreme Brahman, without qualities, beyond primordial nature; and Kṛṣṇa himself, the Lord, is not able (to give it) without you. — (I shall tell of) Dakṣiṇā, arisen from the portion of Lakṣmī and of Dakṣa, a fraction of Kamalā, skilled (dakṣā) in all rites and the giver of the fruit of all rites.
