It is not perishable, and it is not destroyed (at the dissolution); it was made by the Lord's will. That abode, giving torment to sinners, is of many forms. (It is filled) with those beaten by my messengers, starved by afflictions, crying out "Save (me)!", and devoured by those very worms. (One is) filled with the tears of men's eyes, or half (filled), and joined with sinners beaten by my messengers, eaten as food by them and gnawed by worms, each one all clinging together, ever trembling with fear, crying "Save, save!", beaten by the messengers. The weapon-pit is filled with darkness, a krośa in measure, terrifying, ringed with iron weapons shaped like spears with very sharp points. Three pits of arrows and the rest are filled full with those very (weapons), joined with sinners pierced by them, or half filled with red blood. (Another is) filled with caustic liquids, a krośa in measure, occupied by sinners who consume that and are burned, and beaten by my messengers. (Another is) two gavyūtis in measure, deep, filled with darkness, joined with sinners who are its food, bitten by water-creatures. (Another) place, pit-shaped, is pervaded by a herd of great elephants, filled with the blood of sinners struck by the elephants' tusks; and (there) they lie fallen for a very long time, deprived of bodies for enjoyment. Kumbhīpāka is proclaimed the chief of all pits. In a pit a krośa in measure they know the Pāśaveṣṭana ('noose-binding'). Śūlaprota ('impaled on a spike') is declared to measure twenty bows. Deep and filled with darkness, twenty bows in measure, is what is called Dehacūrṇa ('body-pulverizing'), of those swooning and senseless. Where, the moment he falls, a sinner becomes wrapped about by serpents — a hundred bows, full of serpents — that is the Nāgaveṣṭana pit.
