Yama said: He who makes a gift of food to a brāhmaṇa in Bhārata is honoured in Śakra's world for years equal to the measure of the food. He who gives a brāhmaṇa a very beautiful parasol also rejoices in Varuṇa's abode for ten thousand years; then, reaching his own kind of birth again, he becomes long-lived and happy; both the giver and the receiver, those two, surely go to Vaikuṇṭha. Thereafter, for a thousand births, he obtains a beautiful, beloved wife, chaste, endowed with good fortune, tender and sweet-spoken. Reaching his own birth again, he surely obtains a hundred thousand villages, and the earth does not forsake him for a hundred thousand births. He who gives Jambūdvīpa to a brāhmaṇa, O faithful wife, his fruit becomes a hundredfold beyond this — there is no doubt. Reaching his own birth again, he surely obtains devotion to Viṣṇu; he becomes possessed of great wealth, keen-eyed and radiant. And he rejoices in Vaikuṇṭha as long as fourteen Indras (endure); reaching his own birth again, he becomes happy and free of guile. The man who observes Śrī-Rāma's ninth-day (festival) in Bhārata rejoices in Viṣṇu's mansion for seven manvantaras. He who in Bhārata worships Śrī Kṛṣṇa together with Rādhā in a stone or in an image, offering the sixteen services, comes again to earth as one fortunate and of unequalled prowess; he too becomes long-lived, possessed of knowledge and joined with prosperity. He who recites a crore of Hari's names in the field of Nārāyaṇa becomes surely freed from all sins and liberated while living. A man obtains fourfold fruit in a rājasūya; in a human sacrifice half of the horse-sacrifice, and in a cow-sacrifice the same; assuredly he obtains the fruit of a thousand rājasūyas. There is no sacrifice in the Veda higher and more fruit-giving than the sacrifice to Viṣṇu. The recitation of the four Vedas and likewise the circumambulation of the earth — the fruit and the seed of all this is the service of Kṛṣṇa, which gives liberation.
