On the bank of the river Candrabhāgā, at the foot of a lovely banyan tree — there the Great God took his stand, for the sake of the gods' deliverance. || (The city was) very hard of access to enemies and to others, but easy of approach and pleasant (to its own), girt all around by a jewelled rampart exceedingly high, touching the sky. || Having gone (there), he saw that most beautiful Śaṅkhacūḍa, seated in the midst of the rāsa-circle, established on a golden lion-throne. || Having heard the messenger's words, Śaṅkhacūḍa laughed and said, "In the morning I shall indeed come; and you, go." || (She was) clad in red garments, with red garlands and unguents, dancing and laughing and singing sweetly with delight. || And she, on hearing the news of the war, her throat, lips and palate dry, the virtuous woman spoke sweetly, with a heart that was pained. || "He is the lord of Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Śiva and the rest, beyond prakṛti; he is creator, protector and destroyer, always with his entire portion. || It is the ignorant man who is faint-hearted in grief and in calamity, not the learned; pleasure and pain revolve just so, in the manner of the rim of a wheel." || Again the knower of awakening awakened her with divine knowledge — that supreme truth which was formerly given by Kṛṣṇa at Bhāṇḍīra. || The two were constantly attended by victory, and not for a moment defeated.
