And the Five-Arrowed One (Kāma) shot his five arrows at her; she, smeared with flowers and sandal, was burnt by the flower-weaponed god — (as she saw) Mālyavān coming, all his limbs sprinkled with sandal, adorned with jewel ornaments, gazing at her lotus face; Mālyavān rich with pārijāta blossoms and sweetly smiling, marked with musk and saffron, radiant with a fragrant tilaka, reddish in colour, lovely, gleaming like lac-dye; (and her) resplendent like a ruby with land-lotuses and water-lotuses. Hearing this speech, the fair-eyed one, filled with desire, smiling, her face lowered, spoke to him who was full of desire. — (A woman) who outwardly conceals by deceit her inner craving for intercourse, who devours her lover in secret while outwardly exceedingly bashful; (the body) a receptacle of all kinds of dung, urine and pus, joined with filth, foul-smelling, full of defects, smeared with blood and unconsecrated. — Puṣṭi, Tuṣṭi, Smṛti, Medhā, Kālikā and Vasundharā, Ṣaṣṭhī and Maṅgalacaṇḍī, and Mūrti, indeed the wife of Dharma. I come to you now by the command of Brahmā; I shall take you by a gāndharva marriage, O beautiful one. A śūdra in a month ... in the Vedas, like a mother, a mixing of castes; impure, ruled by women, he becomes clean (only) from the time of the burning of his corpse; at the end of that he certainly obtains birth in a womb of disease. He sells a load of meat, and indeed carries it day and night. As Ahalyā (was joined) to Gautama and Devahūti to Kardama, as Tārā to Bṛhaspati, as Śatarūpā to Manu — in an exceedingly delightful place, empty of all creatures, on a bed of flowers and sandal, with a breeze of flowers and sandal. (He gave) a supreme ring fashioned of priceless jewels, beautiful, the best of gems, hard to obtain in the three worlds; and he gave a vermilion tilaka mark in the shape of a blazing lamp, upon her pair of lotus feet which put land-lotuses to shame; and on the bed of flowers and sandal, where the male cuckoo's cry was heard, joined with flowers and sandal, by a breeze of flowers and sandal. And he attained the supreme abode, most hard to win, remover of old age and death, the highest; and he reached the excellent door — ah, of Hari's hermitages — furnished with hundreds of steps made of syamantaka jewels, having knots of silk thread and lovely sandal shoots, served by Gaṅgā with supreme devotion and with white yak-tail fans, and praised by all whose necks were bowed in devotion. Knowing me, Virajā in the form of a river, and (my) having vanished, she went back again, angry, to her own dwelling together with her companions. By half a moment of Goloka one manvantara comes to be on earth, O creator of the worlds — such is the fixed saying.
