sautiruvāca || atha kṛṣṇo mahālakṣmīṃ sādaraṃ ca sarasvatīm || nārāyaṇāya pradadau ratnendraṃ mālayā saha necchāmi gṛhiṇīṃ nātha varaṃ dehi madīpsitam || yasya yadvāñchitaṃ tasmai taddadāti sadīśvaraḥ amaratvaṃ ca sarvāgryaṃ siddhayo'ṣṭādaśa smṛtāḥ || yogāstapāṃsi sarvāṇi dānāni ca vratāni ca || parā krameṇa yaśasā mahasā matsamo bhava|| prāṇānāmapadhikastvañca na bhaktastvatparo mama dhruvaṃ tāḥ parabhogyāśca patiṃ nindanti santatam|| āvayoratiriktaṃ ca yā paśyati patiṃ satī śivakalyāṇavacanaṃ kalyāṇaṃ muktivācakam || yatastatprabhavettena sa śivaḥ parikīrtitaḥ kāle sarveṣu viśveṣu mahāpūjāsu pūjite|| bhavitā prativarṣe ca śāradī yā sureśvari || evaṃ kuberādibhyastu dattvā mantrādikaṃ param|| vidhiṃ provāca sṛṣṭyarthaṃ vidhāturvidhireva saḥ

Sauti said: Then Kṛṣṇa respectfully gave Mahālakṣmī and Sarasvatī to Nārāyaṇa, together with the chief of jewels and a garland. "I do not want a wife, lord; grant me the boon I desire." — Whatever anyone wishes, that the eternal Lord gives him. Immortality, and foremost of all, the eighteen reputed perfections; all yogas, austerities, gifts and vows — "by prowess, by fame, by splendour, become equal to me. You are dearer to me than my life-breaths, and no devotee of mine is higher than you. Certainly those women who are (meant) for others' enjoyment constantly revile their husband; but she is a chaste wife who sees no husband other than the two of us. 'Śiva' is a word (meaning) welfare, and welfare denotes liberation; since it arises from that, he is proclaimed Śiva. When you are worshipped at all times, in all worlds, at the great worships, there shall be every year the autumnal (festival), O mistress of the gods." Having thus given to Kubera and the rest the supreme mantra and the rest, he told Vidhi (Brahmā) the rule for the sake of creation — he being the very ordainer of the ordainer.
