Śaunaka said: Are the cows, cowherds and cowherd-women in Goloka eternal, or are they created? To dispel my doubt, you ought to explain that to me. Those minor kalpas—the Saṃvarta and the rest—are said to be very many; and he, Mārkaṇḍeya, is held to live to the end of seven kalpas. Well prepared with sandal, aloe-wood, musk and saffron, drenched with curds, parched grain, barley-meal, grain, dūrvā grass and leaves; her lovely red lips, best on earth, surpassing the bandhujīva flower; her row of fair teeth, charming, surpassing a string of pearls. And from her hair-pores a host of cowherd women at once appeared, equal to her in beauty and in dress. And the lord of the cowherd women, out of great affection, gave one of them a white horse for Dharma, as a mount, in the assembly of the gods. Then after that there appeared from Kṛṣṇa's secret parts one tawny male, together with tawny hosts. From Kṛṣṇa's right eye there appeared terrifying beings, bearing tridents and spears, three-eyed, with the moon on their crests.
