Sūta said: The divine sage asked Hara for a hymn to Hari, an armour-mantra, a mantra, the supreme rite of worship, the meditation, and knowledge as well. First, having meditated on the guru, bowed to him and worshipped him according to rule, then, taking his permission, one should meditate on and worship one's chosen deity. Ground thrown up by the plough, a field of grain, a cow-pen, the interior of a river-cave, a flower-garden, and muddy ground (are to be avoided). One (application of earth) on the penis, three on the anus, then ten on the left hand, seven on both; the (lower) part is purified by the sixth. One should avoid earth from grain-grounds, from fields, and from gardens. Whether bathed or unbathed, a brahmin is purified by (this) cleansing. Having washed the feet and sipped water, one should perform the morning sandhyā. Thus the twice-born of good family performs the sandhyā at the three junctures. And the resolve (saṅkalpa) of householders destroys the sins committed; the brahmin, having made the resolve, should smear the earth on his body. Sāvitrī, Tulasī, Durgā, Mahālakṣmī, Sarasvatī, Rādhā dearer than life to Kṛṣṇa, Lopāmudrā, Diti, Rati—(these are invoked). On a śālagrāma, on a gem, in a mantra, in an image, in water, on the ground, on a cow's back, in the guru, in a brahmin—there the worship of Hari is commended. Seat, garment, water for the feet, guest-offering, water for sipping, flowers, sandal, incense, lamp, and excellent food-offering—having given various presents and having praised (him), one should recite the armour-hymn; then, having made the concluding dismissal, one should bow to the ground with the head.
