Sauti said: When some kalpas had passed, at the Creator's ordinance of creation again, he came forth from (Brahmā's) throat together with the sages Marīci and the rest. Though a child, he was born red-coloured, at once by his exceeding brilliance, blazing with upward-turned austerity; by that he is called Aruṇi. Those eleven who came into being at the Creator's time of anger are remembered (as the Rudras); from their very weeping, and being made angry — for that reason they are the Rudras. 'Sanat' means what is eternally spoken (i.e. the everlasting), and 'kumāra' denotes a child; therefore the lotus-born called him Sanatkumāra.
