Sauti said: In time the boy gradually became five years old, remembering his (former) birth, possessed of knowledge, always mindful of his former mantra. Śaunaka said: The child's name too has been learned, and its derivation, as is fitting; (but) how (came) the name of the lord of sages, the auspicious 'Nārada'? The fourth sage gladly gave him the Kṛṣṇa mantra; by the order of his mother he became the servant of those, of the brahmin. "Oṃ śrīṃ, homage to the Blessed One, lord of the circle of the rāsa dance, to Śrī Kṛṣṇa, svāhā" — this mantra is a wish-granting tree. (Kṛṣṇa's) chest, brilliant with the jewel, the chief Kaustubha, was gazed at by the gopīs with ever bashful eyes. And when, stricken with grief, he was unable to see that, he ceased; and the child wept at the foot of the aśvattha tree, not seeing the boy (Kṛṣṇa).
