Sauti said: Mālāvatī, having given wealth to the brahmins, was delighted, and arranged various adornment for herself and for her husband's sake. "Tell that too, O Sauti; I have the curiosity to hear it" — the praise-armour of Śaṅkara, the mantra that destroys misfortune. It must not be given to just anyone, for it is as dear to me as my own breath. Whatever splendour is in my body, that same splendour is in the armour too. "Oṃ, homage to the Lord, the master of the rāsa-circle, svāhā" — may this sixteen-syllable mantra itself protect the chest. And the mantra "Oṃ, homage to the Lord Śiva, svāhā" was given of old by Vasiṣṭha at Puṣkara out of compassion, O mighty one. May the moon-crested one protect the throat, the bull-rider the shoulders; may the blue-throated one protect the chest, the sky-clad one the back — (he who is) like snow, sandal, jasmine, the moon, the white water-lily and the lotus, whose very nature is the light of Brahman, whose body is grace to devotees. Even one who is bound in prison and gains no release is surely freed from bondage after hearing this hymn for a single month.
