brāhmaṇa uvāca || dṛṣṭaḥ kālo yamo mṛtyukanyā vyādhigaṇā aho || kaste'dhunā ca sandehastaṃ pṛccha kanyake śubhe kṛtvā tu pañcamaṃ vedaṃ bhāskarāya dadau vibhuḥ || svatantrasaṃhitāṃ tasmādbhāskaraśca cakāra saḥ sarvasāraṃ candrasuto jābālastantrasārakam || vedāṅgasāraṃ tantraṃ ca cakāra jājalirmuniḥ vāyujaḥ pittajaścaiva śleṣmajaśca tathaiva ca || jvarabhedāśca trividhāścaturthaśca tridoṣajaḥ śaradraudraṃ na gṛhṇāti bhramaṇaṃ tatra varjayet || khātasnāyī samāhārī jarā taṃ nopagacchati pāpānāṃ vyādhibhiḥ sārddhaṃ mitratā santataṃ dhruvam || pāpaṃ vyādhijarābījaṃ vighnabījaṃ ca niścitam taptodakaṃ ca śirasi bhādre tiktaṃ viśeṣataḥ || daivagrastaśca yo bhuṅkte pittaṃ tasya prajāyate saghṛtaṃ rocanācūrṇaṃ saghṛtaṃ śuṣkaśarkaram || marīcaṃ pippalaṃ śuṣkamārdrakaṃ jīvakaṃ madhu vyādhisaṃghaśca kathitastantrāṇi vividhāni ca || tāni vyādhipraṇāśāya kṛtāni sadbhireva ca

The brāhmaṇa said: You have seen Time, Yama, the daughter of Death, and the hosts of diseases — ah! What doubt have you now? Ask him about it, O auspicious maiden. Having made the fifth Veda, the Lord gave it to Bhāskara (the Sun); from that Bhāskara composed his own independent compendium. Candra's son (Budha) made the Sarvasāra, Jābāla the Tantrasāraka, and the sage Jājali made the tantra Vedāṅgasāra. Born of wind, born of bile, and likewise born of phlegm — these are the three kinds of fever, and the fourth arises from all three humours. One does not take on the fierceness of autumn; wandering about should there be avoided. He who bathes in dug (tank water) and eats moderately — old age does not come upon him. For the sinful, friendship with diseases is constant and certain; sin is the seed of disease and old age, and assuredly the seed of obstacles. Hot water upon the head, and bitter (food) especially in the month of Bhādra: whoever, seized by fate, consumes (these), bile arises in him. Rocanā powder with ghee, dried sugar with ghee, pepper, long pepper, dried ginger, jīvaka, honey. Thus the host of diseases has been told, and the various tantras; these were made by the good for the destruction of disease.
