The brāhmaṇa said: By what disease, then, has your beloved now died, O virtuous lady? I know the treatment of all diseases, and I am a physician. (She said:) Will the best of the knowers of the Veda then bring my husband to life? Whatever I ask out of doubt, that you ought to tell. Hearing Mālāvatī's words, the brāhmaṇa, best of the knowers of the Veda, summoned them into the midst of the assembly and made them visible. And seeing them, fearless, Mālāvatī, the greatly virtuous woman, with delighted face and eyes, first questioned Yama. (He said:) Question Kāla, the great soul, the knower of dharma, in this assembly of dharma; then, good lady, you will assuredly do what is fitting — (he) by whose command the earth, the support of the waters and the support of all, the patient earth, has not been shaken even by fear.
