Sauti said: At the festival for the son the Gandharva king, filled with joy, gave jewels and riches of many kinds to the brahmins. "Go you to a śūdra womb and cast off this Gandharva body; in time, through contact with Vaiṣṇavas, you shall become my son" — uttering the supreme Brahman, the essence of the Veda, higher than the highest, the supreme seed of deliverance, the two syllables "Kṛṣṇa"; on Śrīśaila, in the divine Śrīvana frequented by Śrīnivāsa, endowed with Śrī, at the pure auspicious lotus-feet of Śrī, fashioned by Acyuta. Having spoken thus, that daughter of Citraratha, tormented by separation, fell into a swoon right there in the impassable dense forest. "Everywhere the wise are good men; what woman on earth is possessed of knowledge? Who then can grant what is wished for to me, a deluded woman? Ah, you gods, sharers in the sacrifice, able on earth to eat the ghee — in a moment, by my own play, I shall make you no sharers in the sacrifice. The good and holy remember, and the sages joyfully murmur, Mādhava, in dream and in waking and in all their acts." The gods said: "Sharers in the sacrifice, eaters of ghee — it was you alone who made us so; by a woman's curse all that now departs, O Mādhava" — (seeing) her, distressed by the weight of her large hips, with full loins and breasts, gazing again and again with an auspicious look upon the corpse of Īśa.
