He indeed guarded the earth, wholly without self-conceit, though his mind had been made utterly pure by constant meditation—(purified) by his own duty, characterized by the protecting, nourishing, gratifying, fondling and instructing of his subjects, and by sacrifice and the rest, and by that highest aim characterized by the offering up of his whole self to the Lord, the great person, the Brahman that is both higher and lower, and by the yoga of devotion to the Lord brought about through constant service at the feet of the knowers of Brahman—so that his sense of the not-self had ceased and the experience of Brahman as the self was realized by him in himself.
