He said to him: "Come here, fool! Release the earth, ours, (the earth) of the dwellers in Rasā; it was entrusted to us by the creator of the universe. You will not go safely off with her while I look on, O lowest of the gods, you who have taken on the shape of a boar!"

"Were you not maintained by our foes for our destruction — you who, conquering unseen, kill the asuras by trickery? Having laid you low, dull one — you whose strength is (mere) yoga-māyā and whose manly power is small — I shall wipe away the griefs of my kinsmen."

He, being pricked by the lances of the enemy's foul words, noticing that the earth resting on the tip of his tusk was afraid, endured the goading and came out from the midst of the water, like an elephant with its mate attacked by a crocodile.

As he was coming out of the water, the golden-haired one pursued him, as a great fish pursues an elephant, and with terrible teeth and a voice like a thunderbolt he said: "But what is blameworthy for the shameless and the wicked?"

As the two rivals, their limbs battered by the sharp clubs, their fury swelling at the smell of the blood flowing from their wounds, moved through varied manoeuvres in their desire for victory, the combat looked like that of two mighty bulls over a cow.
