Atharvaveda Samhita — Kanda 6 — Chapter 113

AV 6 113.1

trite devā amṛjataitad enas trita enan manuṣyeṣu mamṛje | tato yadi tvā grāhir ānaśe tāṃ te devā brahmaṇā nāśayantu

On Trita the gods wiped off this sin; Trita wiped it off onto men. If from that the Seizer has reached you, let the gods make it vanish for you by the sacred formula.

This sin the Gods wiped off and laid on Trita, and Trita wiped it off on human beings. Thence if the female fiend hath made thee captive, the Gods by prayer shall banish her and free thee.

AV 6 113.2

Enter into the beams of light, into the smokes, O evil; or go into the vapours or the fogs. Vanish away along the foams of the rivers. Wipe away, Pūṣan, the evils of embryo-slaying.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

Enter the particles of light and vapours, go to the rising fogs or mists, O Evil! Hence! vanish in the foams of rivers. Pūshan, wipe woes away upon the babe-destroyer!

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1895–96)

AV 6 113.3

Twelvefold is deposited what was wiped off of Trita, the sins of men. If from that the Seizer has reached you, let the gods make it vanish for you by the sacred formula.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

Stored in twelve separate places lies what Trita hath wiped away, the sins of human beings. Thence if the female fiend hath made thee captive, the Gods by prayer shall banish her and free thee.
